With us being the better side these days, we are licking our lips at inflicting more misery on Wire in the coming derby. I expect a fairly straight forward win.[/quote:1d72a5qw][b:1d72a5qw]Wire 44 - 6 Widnes[/b:1d72a5qw]

Put O'Brien as a back up with Gidley and Sandow and we're no worse off in any way. I'd have kept him around. In the end though he eventually does have to step up and carry a team, I don't think Gaz would have ever done that.'"
I would have liked to have seen GOB stay, too. I read today that he opted out of his last year under advisement from TS that he likely wouldn't see much game time and that isn't what he needs at this point in his career. I think he made the right call and he had a great game tonight. Worrying for us how lost we looked without Gidders though.

| The Sky team would have been gutted with that. Clarke's been told to calm the 'Wigan' down in him so now he's a Salford fanatic; excitable Wells says he's "sweet on Salford" this season and said they'd win; and Warringtonian but clearly not a Wire, Eddie, will be going home in a mood after that!haha
Well what a comeback it was and what a finish by Sandow. It was harder to drop that goal than kick the penalty he had a minute earlier. Great drama!
Though trip to Perpignan next but tails should be high and Gidley should be back.

| Seemed we couldn't tackle a good Sunday dinner in the first half. IMHO we owe a debt of thanks to Ben Currie's little spat for lighting a fire under us and starting the comeback. I thought Ashton Sims had one of his best games tonight.

I didn't think GOB looked great bar a couple of good touches. The game highlighted his weaknesses and why he will struggle to ever be a good player in SL. His tackling was hopeless, a half decent fullback stops at least two of our tries and he just kept getting smashed when running the ball in.
He doesn't offer enough in attack at the moment to offset his defence, maybe that will change over the next few years.

| Sandow's kick was an incredible piece of skill - in those conditions, plenty of pressure on him from defenders and he hit it sweet as a nut. Beautiful.
I agree that the Currie spat fired us (and particularly Hill & Simms) up and turned the tide. I also thought fitness wise we looked to have twice as much in the tank as Salford around the hour mark. As soon as we got within a converted try they were begging for penalties.
I thought Matty Russell was absolutely exceptional tonight, and fair play to Atkins who took both his tries very well.
A great result, plenty of improvement to come, and players to come back into the fold.
Happy days.

| Hill was immense as usual, Matty Russell was very good, thought Westerman had a good second half...and Sandow...WOW what a kick...sheer brilliance from the guy, Happy days indeed.

| Matty Russell makes such a difference when he plays with that tempo, great game from him tonight.

| Wow, what a comeback I never saw that coming at 12-30. Amazing last kick and I particularly enjoyed sims try. Fact remains though our defence in the first half was mick poor, we won't get away with defending that softly very often.
Second half was incredible, great character not throwing in the towel. i wish I put £20 on Sandow for man of steel in the off season.

| Well it's nice to see a bit of excitement from a Wire side after the last couple of years, everyone must have been on the edge of their seats at the end, - I nearly fell off my wheelchair when Sandow kicked that goal. But that first half was a worry with some really poor defending that gifted Salford 2 tries. And we also gave away too many penalties. In contrast Salford looked very Aussie-like, completing all their sets (did they waste any ?) and working really hard. Staggering to see the second half unfold though. We must have completed far more tackles than them, yet we still managed to turn the screw and get back into the match without using Jullien and only allowing Dodds a very short run out. There must be some seriously fit people in our squad this year (although 'dog' was looking knackered at the end).
Similar to the Anthony England experiment, I guess that is the end of the Wheeler one. Got to feel sorry for the guy.
Finally, surely we can look forward to a much better year than 2015 ? We had Westwood, Gidley and Clarke out. Plus we used Ratch and Dodds who were far from match fit, and there was nobody around to tell jokes in the pack as Cox bailed out with an upset tummy.

Spoke to Phil Clarke and Jon wells before the game, Clarke tipped us to win, but I'm more than happy with Wells as I spoke to him at the Leeds game and he tipped them to win.well he tipped Salford for this one, I asked him to keep tipping against us.

| Of course, you could have written the script. Having lavished Hicks with praise for his handling of the Cas Hull game, he went out to prove me wrong by having a erratic, inconsistent stinker. Until he finally ran out of puff for his whistle, it looked like the game was going to be decided on who received the most penalties, where and when, as opposed to skill, desire and fitness.
The sin-binnings, the decision to penalise Atkins for the "shoulder-charge" (it may have been a shoulder charge but if we are going to penalise tackles like that we'll make premiership football look like death race 2000), his policing of the PTB and offisde, he refereed the second half totally differently to the first.
Having said that I did enjoy him telling Tomkins to put a ***ing sock in it, you snivelling little pond floor-dweller. Well, I like to imagine that's broadly what he said.

| Impressed with Currie tonight. Really stood up, showed a side we probably haven't seen before. Kept Masila in his pocket most of the game, don't like what he did to get sin binned but thought it was harsh considering it happens every game. Came back on and made his mark.
Russell my MoM, Hill good for the last 60, Sandow drop goal absolutely ridiculous. Not sure we deserved it, but we are 4 from 4, will need to be better in France, against a bigger pack.

| The last 30 minutes of the 2nd half was my most favourite 30 minutes of RL ever.
I have been to games that overall I have enjoyed more and meant more in terms of the result, but that last 30 minutes was the best segment of a game ever.

Seems it's all down to the retaliation. James Tamou taps the Leeds player, Mitch Garrett retaliates and Tamou sees yellow. Currie ruffles someones hair, half the Salford squad retaliate and Currie sees yellow. The other week Pritchard smacks someone in the face at the play the ball (way way worse than Tamou and Currie combined), nobody retaliates so Pritchard gets away with a telling off and penalty against him.

Plenty of amateur dramatics to look forward to this year then!
