I think you'll find down towards the away end where the drum is there's loads of chants being sung. The problem is unless it's 'oh warry warry' no one wants to join in.

I am utterly sick to death of chanting "der der der der der der der der der der der der der der der der der der der der der der der der der der der der der". It is most definitely the worst kind of chant in sport. It's unoriginal, dated, boring, annoying...

Bring back the old chant of "Waaaaa-riiing-ton" *clap clap clap* "Waaaaa-riiing-ton" and many more. And let's get some new ones, with real words.

I blame the rise of rap, hip hop and and text messaging. Youth of today have no concept of lyrical eloquence. They should be made to sit down read Dickens and listen to The Clash (I was going to say The Smiths but I didn't want to send people hurtling to the browser back button, rolling their eyes).

Football fans are just as bad (though that shouldn't suprise anyone). I can't bear to watch The Great Escape anymore thanks to that bl**dy band at England games.

There are hip hop artists who've written better lyrics than some of the most revered pop n rock artists and poets kids are taught about in English at school.

Yes, there is a gigantic amount of hip hop that is total and utter dross of the highest order. However, some of it contains very intricate and advanced rhyming patterns and has been described as "scientific rhyming". It is intelligent poetry written by geniuses.

Alas, even if this were true and we could bring some hip-hop yo getting down with da bro's (as it were) eloquence to our terrace chants, the "This is a community stadium" message would go into overload and fuse the south stand PA.

Despise the drums with a passion, used to love singing in the Fletcher End as a kid.

Not sure the drums are a bad thing. There used to be a drum near where I always stand (around the 30m line toward East stand) and since it moved down toward the away end getting a chant going is a task...all people that actually want to sing seem to have moved with it!

The 'problem' is that we don't have a "Fletcher Street End" anymore. The East Stand should have inherited the 'presence' of the old Fletcher Street End, but the folk in there are not willing to start a chant (or make one up) due to either it 'not being etiquette' or they're just not drunk enough! The South Stand is too big to be a chanting source of intimidation, and the North Stand is full of folk too refined to shout too loudly!

The small chants that start about individual players never really take off unless they are in the form of a catchy "der der der" rythym and even then they tend to fizzle out after two verses or renditions.

We need more of those blokes who are tanked up on ale, short, plump and red in the face (usually bald) {think Phil Mitchell} and who are surrounded by their mates so no one can see who they are starting the chant. They tended to have those voices that never gave out when screaming at the top of their voices. (I generalise)

Plus, as I've stated in a few similar posts previously, we need a proper song like Leeds, Salford, Hull etc have got that isn't just the name of the town being repeated incessantly.

The chants that start in the South Stand are gradually making their way around the stadium to reach us in the East, but by the time they have been taken up, the chant is over and the noise has abated.
