| A truly great thread.
I thought Eddie Braben wrote some great stuff for Morecambe and Wise but you Wire fans really are the true writing geniuses of the modern comedy era.
You don't actually believe any of this stuff "win at all costs" nonsense do you? (Whatever next, Coley armed with a chainsaw on Sunday?)
Madge was and remains a well-respected coach in Australia. Whatever the Wigan haters here think of him, in the land where RL is a big sport, Maguire is a big name.

I don't dispute his qualities as a coach, his record at Wigan emphasises how good he is.
However, there will always be lingering doubts about his methods of gaining success, and his hollering antics on Sunday simply added fuel to the theory that he is a 'win-at-all-costs' type of guy.....Yes, to some that will be a positive quality, but to some it is an unlikeable trait that doesn't need to be promoted in the manner that he does.
On a footballing level, he is the despised Don Revie ....Very successful, but not fondly remembered, because he made his teams snarl, instead of purr their way to glory.

I can't believe you have compared Michael Maguire to Don Revie.
At times the criticism of anyone connected with Wigan gets a bit silly.
What has Madge done to be "despised"?

| Deano, mcguire is from a hau5 melbourne team that got in a lot of trouble, he comes to these shores and brings the chicken wings and lying on (cannot be disputed) tactics. He may well have got a job again over there due to bending the rules to win but he is by no means well respected.
I echo dita's statements.

Madge(sick) was a number three behind Bellamy and Kearney at Melbourne.
Maguire is not a "big name" in the NRL - he may turn out to be but at present he is not. The likes of Bennett, Sheens and Stuart are.

| Marjorie coaches a successful style of rugby league as does Tony Smith it's just that they're very different. I'm happy to watch the type that Warrington play and I'm sure that Wigan fans prefer theirs.

Not quite a lol, he's right both Sydney clubs have been going over a century, Roosters are arguably marginally more so, but that's just splitting hairs.

| Will give him the history bit they have plenty of that but they haven't done anything in recent years and are known mostly over here for being Russell Crowe's team then anything else.

So they are really historic and famous then... :
The won the inaugural Aussie premiership. They have won more premierships than any other club.
They are one of only two foundation clubs in the NRL to have survived in their original form.
When they were excluded from the NRL a decade ago there was a massive public campaign for their reinstatement, with tens of thousands of protesters marching through Sydney.
They are a big club and for many people in Oz represent the spirit of RL and its roots in working class areas of Sydney.
But hey, what do I know compared with a Warrington fan....

Fella, just look at some of the managers that have managed Real Madrid over the past 10 years. If you didn't know, Real Madrid are the biggest football club in the world, probably the biggest sports club, but they've appointed their fair share of 'nobodies'.
Just because 'Madge' has got a big job, doesn't mean he's massive over there. He could turn up and flop massively and fall into obscurity, or he could be a hit, but, at present, I don't think any coach that is coaching in SL will be massive in Aus, even if he is coaching the biggest and bestest RL side ever.
