| Sam Tomkins has been unbelievably good at times this year and it wouldnt surprise me if he won it. However I'd give it to Monaghan and I think Wire winning the league will confirm this!

| Hodgeson has had a very good season but for ''control and direction'' then Monas is my top Wire tip for MOS, but arguably Roby has had a better season.
I wouldn't have a problem giving it to Roby over Monas.

tomkins has been exceptional in alot of games.... no one can dispute that.... for me the difference has been that in the big games Monaghan has been the best player on the pitch.... this hasn't happened once or twice... its happened in almost every big game.
yes people can point at roby's meters and tackles..... and people can point at tomkins trys and tackle busts... But what stats dont show is key plays at key times...... and Monaghan has tore SL to pieces this season when it matters... he puts teams on the backfoot and scares the life out of them.
Also the way wire play means we will never have a player with stats like Roby.... we don't rely on someone so heavily... Monaghan outshone Roby in both games against saints... and Tomkins in both league games against wigan.
Monaghan has been the most influential player in SL this season without a doubt.

| This is our forum's 'Play of the Year' vote and you are all now claiming he's been your best play in every game all season?

Spot on, deckchair
Monaghan, whenever he has been up against his "equivalents", has consistantly out-shone them.
Needless to say, whoever wins, the supporters of the vanquished players club's will all say it's corrupt.
We've had a couple of close calls with our players in the last few seasons
It'd be nice for one of our players to get this award, but, as I said earlier, I'd rather one of our players won the Harry Sunderland trophy.

I will have no argument if tomkins or roby wins it ahead of monaghan.... both have had excellent seasons.. i suppose every supporter thinks that their player is the best though.
I dont think there are any saints or pies that cant admit Monaghan has tore them to pieces this season though.

Here's my take on it
Roby, not seen enough of him (on TV, before all you Stains fans start to foam at the mouth) to really comment
Tomkins. A fantastic talent, who (stupidly) opposition players STILL kick to (unbelievable, but there you go). One of the best kick returners I've ever seen. Will his Wembley 'antics' have an effect on the voters' thoughts???
Chase. A very good talent, but, it's like saying Sculthorpe should have been MoS in 1997...he's simply shining, in what is, a poor side.
Feel a little disappointed for Ben W. Awesome this year, but that injury's just come at the wrong time....bugger.
Again, like yourself, deckchair, I'll have no axe to grind if one of MonaghanM, Roby, Ratboy wins.

The only big games so far this season have been the World Club Challenge and the Challenge Cup quarters, semis and final, with a few more still to come.

so those 2 league games between Wire v Worriers weren't 'big games'
funny how some posters attitudes can become selective when they want.
Just out of interest, what happened in those 2 games, and, what were Monaghan's performances like

I don't like it either, but the way the league is structured now as long as you finish in the top 4 or failing that top 8 the only matches which really matter are the Challenge Cup and the playoffs.

Complete testicles (if you don't mind me saying)
So last week's game, where the top 2 in the league where vying for the LLS was not a big game?
Or that old boring cliche, whenever you sack a coach "I don't care what you do, just beat them Saints when we play um".. are they not a big game, either?
...just when you thought Wiganers couldn't get any thicker, another one pops up, and blows that theory out of the water

Apologies for being so rude as to have an opinion of my own, but I don't agree with you. This is what we've had to put up with from the most smug, ignorant and self indulgent set of fans from any sport in this country.
In 2009 and 2010 winning the RL Cup was a minor achievement, in 2011 it was the best thing since sliced bread.
In 2010 winning the League Leaders Plate was a fine achievement, a reward for being consistent all season, in 2011 it was a minor trophy.
