| Quote: Raymond Pennington "I did expect a bit better kicking game and more taking on the line and running from hiim and side stepping like he did at Salford, but he seems to have become a very safety first player to me with the odd flash off brilliant supporting.
His all round game doesn't seem to have come together as much as I thought.'"
So you basically bought the hype that often builds up on sites like this, that we were getting some fully developed, rugby genius??...
If Myler was as good as you, and many others seem to believe he was, at Salford, then surely Salford would have done a hell of a lot better as a side than they actually were, with him there?
Myler has potential, he always has done...At Salford he probably looked very special because it was amongst a lot of mediocrity....However, now he has plenty of classy players around him he has to learn how to pick and choose his own 'moments'.....Its the classic 'small fish in large pond' scenario.
As I said before, I don't see him being another Lee Briers, he has never been that type of player, but certainly in 2 or 3 years time, I would expect him to be a lot more of a leader than he is at present, but ultimately that will only come with experience.

Thats exactly the problem. Kevin Penny had it as well, remember "the new Offiah" rubbish, no wonder he got described as 'overrated' after that.
It wasn't Myler's fault some people on the internet made him out to be the new Shaun Edwards. I had a realistic expectation of what we were getting in Myler, a lad who was fast, has an eye for a gap and will score tries and in a good side will do a lot of damage. So far I have been pleased and think for his age he is a good player and will be a good asset in the long term.
The key thing about Myler is how long he continues to improve and whether he peaks early. The difference IMO between Briers and his rivals Thorman, Orr, Horne, Cooke, is that those four all peaked in their early 20s and stayed at about the same level or slipped down after that, whereas Briers kept getting better season after season and was still on the up after he passed 30.

| Quote: the flying biscuit "you think Myler organised that attack last night......?
Bret Hodgson organised everything....how he didnt get man of the match by a country distance was staggering.
Myler was the only player I was dissapointed in last night...... and the organising thing...not a chance .........he did a lot of arm waving to tell players to get deeper or get wider...and thats all he did he even waved somebody deeper and there was no one near him to follow this instruction...!!
to me it looked like he was trying really hard to be an organiser while he had the chance with Briers out......but it didnt work for me lots of arm waving and hand clapping and no end product, thankfully we had Brett Hodgson......
Makes Tony Smiths decision to drop him for wembley last year look absolutely the right thing he has a long way to go in his development.'"
Sounds like you were at a different game to me on Friday. There were plenty of occasions I saw Atkins talking to Myler, Myler talking back, arranging things down our left, communicating between the forwards and centres really well - and Brett Hodgson wasn't within 10 feet of him. Myler's got a way to go but he's looked like he's really pushed on this season from where he was last and long may he continue.

| Myler is a tryscorer - end of. Hasn't he scored in 6 of the last 7 games. Also he got 20 in 22 super league games last year. Saying that, we hounded out a winger with a record of 26 tries in 39 games.

| If the Wire get to Wembley again this year how many of you would go with Myler at 7 as opposed to last year's suprise selection of Monners at half back from the Special One?

Irrelevant, clarke, or even bridge could have been at 7 last year if briers plays like that then the chances are we will win. Myler will NEVER replace briers, it's that simple.

Exactly, but that's not to say that Myler can't become a great in his own way and for his own attributes.
Shaun Edwards was no Andy Gregory, but Wigan adapted to play a different way once Gregory left, and remained successful....We will have to do something similar once Briers eventually goes.

I agree, but people seem intent on slagging him off becuse he is no briers. If we get a decent 6 in to replace briers then myler will score tries for fun over the next 5 or 6 years.

| Can we leave it now
Our "cider" drinking "friend" (I see Raymond has popped up again) has wound a few too many up, now
Briers and Myler are 2 totally different players
It's OBVIOUS Smith hasn't bought Myler to replace Lee. He's bought Myler to be.......Myler
When Lee retires, we'll have a replacement for him...it really is that simple
Oh, and Ray, Cider, or whatever you want to call yourself....go and harass a Superking smoking, tattooed "MILF" in Chicago Rock, and leave the rugby talk to those who care/know.

| Some people seem to think Myler is the long term successor for Lee Briers?
Seen as though he is playing in a different position, I don't think this is the case.
I thought he played well Friday and does do each week. His passing game is improving nicely, as is his awareness; plenty of runners off him, and he generally controls the middle well. He also has that 'instinct' that I love in being an oppurtunist - pops up and scores brilliant tries.
Bright future for him here. I'm sure Briers will be replaced by somebody of decent reputation at #6.
So, lets allow Myler to continue improving and cut out these unjustified criticism's . . .

| If you want to measure how well Myler is doing, compare him with players of his ilk at other clubs. I know stats aren't always great wat of evaluating a players performance but they can be useful in measuring effectiveness.
