Wire exiled in Hampshire:

Maybe the drums will help us ward off a buttock-slashing from the terrifying Ultras of the Curva Meat & Potato.

I suppose if they have their hands on their drumsticks they can't also have their hands on alcohol...

Seems there is a definite backlash forming against the drums. I think one of the problems is the people who didn't really mind them without being for them are probably getting a bit bored of them now, so when they start up, only a minority are joining in with them so the songs quickly peter out.

I guarantee - if the drums are left behind on Friday, there will be no problem with atmosphere.

You don't need drums for atmosphere just someone with a big gob to start things off.

usually the case for any sport and support. United's away support is brilliant but the home support is often poor.

yes it is, doesn't mean that 75,000 of them sing all game every week, this is about atmosphere not crowd numbers.....

I personally think that drums take away credibility as noise makers xD Your away support is great and proof that you don't need it. At the HJ though, Wire fans definitely have a reputation of being unable to sing without their drum.

I suppose a little bit of constructive criticism for the young lads now doing it is that everything is done too fast, we cant sing along because we cant keep up. If you sing whilst your banging it you may realise what I mean as the end of the songs are 200% quicker than the start.

You also have to understand whats going on in the game to a certain extent and get a feeling for when people will join in. A break, big shot or a fight will always get people ramped up so get it going as soon as you see that.

My honest oppinion is that in the current form the drums are actually preventing an atmosphere.

Eh, if that's the case why did you and Hawley bring them out of retirement at Widnes last year? icon_wink.gif
