I didn't say he was the best. I just think he has more to his game than what that other bloke first said! He took it back which is fair do's.
But he is a bloody good ref! Hanley drove me mad for years when he did it at Wigan. Funny how it bothered me less when he did it at Leeds. I love the fact sini does it.

| Quote: just_browny "Think football's more your game mate. While Sinfield's international record doesn't stand up against any of those (hold up, actually it stands up quite well against Cunningham's), he is a fine player and has certainly been the most successful captain of Leeds RLFC in the club's history. Moreover, he has been a superb ambassador for his club and the game off-the-field.
What any of it has to do with this thread isn't entirely clear, though.'"
I have not questioned Kevin Sinfields playing ability and I guarantee you, you will find somewhere on RL Fans a quote from me confirming my admiration of him as a player and a Captain, and how I would like him at the Wire. (he's not a world beater I think thats a fair assumption but a great player to have in your side)
In fact I can only think of Adrian Morley and Jamie peacock who I would rather have as Captain of my team. And the Fact, he is Club Captain ahead of one of those already speaks volumes for the PLAYER.
that said I'm sure you were able to see I was having a pop at Brian Mcdermott making the claim that while Statues Were good enough for Wally Lewis and Brian Bevan they clearly are not enough for Kevin Sinfield........its the second week of the season and I expect much more of the same stuff from MCDERMOTT....
football isnt my game Browny I'm quite a big fairy when all said and done the only game I'm brave enough to play is crown green bowls but the smell of old mans urine puts me off

as already mentioned pal i'm not having a pop at Sinfield
Breaking a long standing record is indeed impressive and I have no idea of the relative goals/tries ratio, and the fact that Jones scored 3 point tries while sinny scored 4 pointers probably counts for very little... scoring the points to that extent can only have a positive effect on your team
Lee Briers is second in our all Time scoring list (thats two and one places respectively )ahead of two of the games greatest ever players Harry Bath and Brian Bevan. Steve Hesford is top, unfortunately neither Lee nor Hesford will ever get a shoe box named after them.....thats How it goes I suppose and I guess Mcdermott feels the same about Sinfield but didnt make his point well in my opinion.
to be fair I'm not a fan of Mcdermott which is a shame as a I like Leeds.

I assume you mean me sgtwilko, I haven't taken anything back
Read my posts again. I said he's a good SL player (which is OBVIOUSLY made up of the attributes you have mentioned, I just didn't feel the need to list them, the same attributes for any other good SL player) and a fantastic organiser. That's it. If you regard him higher, good, I'm pleased for you. I think he's a good player. We just disagree on the level of his "greatness".
As for the reffing bit. I DETEST THAT. I hated Hanley for doing it. Likewise the usual suspects at Stains. I HATE BRIERS FOR DOING IT...... IT'S JUST PLAIN WRONG. We don't want our sport going down the same road as football, which, I fear, IS happening.
To be honest, you V V V V rarely see ANY team being marched back a further 10 metres anymore, for abusing the ref (cos that's what it is). Yes, the captain is allowed to ask the ref things, but harrassment/constant questioning of decisions is bang out of order.

ok mate, I take your point's ,but Jones record ,many said would stand foever, 3 point tries or not "2920 "I think it was in 12 seasons, so when people said it would never be beaten and even if it takes Sinfield 2or 3 seasons more to reach this its still a great achievement. What I think Mac is saying is,later this year tyey will begin building the new south stand and it will include a staue of the late John Holmes, another player who was not revered outside the Leeds club during his playing days, but is regarded by many as leeds greates player ,in 10-15 years time Sinfield will have the same status.I knew a long time ago he would finish his caraer at the club ,becaus in the taverners suite at Headingley there is a plaque listing the club legends and Sinny is listed with them Arthur Clues and the rest

| Flamin' eck, Morleys! what have you done to that "poster" on Leeds board, Remarkable Rhinos...I've not seen so much 3 in years. It's probably sitting in a padded cell now, gibbering like monkey. That defeat at Wembley must really be hitting home now. Such bitterness
