Lawson would be in there, he stockpiled coal when he was Energy Secretary to make sure there was enough to ride out one winter worth of strike. Thatcher backed down when the first coal trouble arose in 81, else she would have gone the way of Heath. By 84 she had enough reserves to ride out the strike.

| I'm a bit sympathetic to them and they should get their compo, but the thing is, the problem is that that plant is apparently not profitable. I'd imagine that Vestas' £40m profit is global. And you can't nationalise them unless you want to cause a massive diplomatic incident, because they are Danish...
To be honest, I think they'd be better off picketing the office in Birchwood if anything, otherwise they'll end up just naffing loads of people off tonight if they get in the way.
And as for the rugby league/working class point (Sally Cinnamon): true, but remember why exactly we play in Primrose and Blue...

Their business model is basically to build the wind turbines in the country they will be used in (because of transport costs - they're pretty big apparently) and it's taken too long for the UK market to get going so they've basically given up. Production has been moved to China, the States and Spain (so maybe they'll be sponsoring Catalan next year).
Shame really - another nail in the manufacturing coffin.

Won't argue with that. Though why we don't up the ante on the offshore wind I don't know.
I mean, what else is the point of Barrow?

| I'm not going the match tonight to show solidarity with the sacked Vestas workers... Only joking, its because I'm not well, but still don't see what's wrong with them trying to get a bit of publicity for their cause. I'm sure with them being our major sponsors, there might be some people from Vestas at the game.

I doubt it, my missus picked up on that. The club have a claim for copyright infringement.

Maybe you would have preferred a collapse of the banking system instead?
Anyway I'd rather have cheap, nuclear generated electricity.

Probably not. I got covered with it. Softer than ticket stubs too.

| Lady Daresbury paid for our first kit - she chose primrose as it was her favourite colour and blue as it was the colour of the Tory party.......
As for Vestas - wind power is a ridiculous concept for this country - the amount of turbines required to provide meaningful power for this country is completely impractical.
The future has to be nuclear power with tidal power (we are an island after all) as a 'green' back up.
