Just got back from the "match".
It doesn't matter what effort the forwards put in when they are continually let down by a lack of a playmaker at half back.
If Monahan is a half back then I am a 10 stone prop forward!
Why were most of the kicks to our right when the only man with any speed was on the left?
Why do we have no ideas near the line? Because we have nobody orchestrating the moves. They must be trying some out in training, but not transferring them to games. Why?
Most of the tackling was OK, but we saw the heads drop middle of second half.
I predicted when Clarke replaced Higham late in the first half that Cas would score at least one try - and hey presto.
He takes the ball at ASH with one foot in front of the ball so that we all know which way the pass is going.
Having said that I was more saddened than angry with the lack of skill on show today, and hope that TS can see where the problems lie, and sort them out for next season.

I know I sound like a smart ass, but who seriously, after the end to last season, would be stupid enough to commit to a full season of Wire....At least those of us uncommitted types can now sit at home and count the cash we are saving...

Today has answered one question for me. Chris Bridge is not and will never be an effective half-back/pivot. He'll make a very effective centre, probably not for us though. No decision making skill, and given Monas wasn't providing any direction failed to step up to the plate.

The forwards provided a decent platform today, only for the two playing 6&7 to waste it time after time. I can't really criticise the outside backs either, they didn't do a whole lot wrong, again due to the lack of direction out of the halves.

Chase & Sherwin played simple half back roles - direct the pack around and attack the line (ours didn't), if nothing was on they turned us round. Nothing fancy or clever, but it saw us off easily enough.

To succeed you need a decent spine to a team - 1, 6, 7, 9, 13. Out of those 5 positions we've got 1 effective player in Higham, and another in Briers when he feel like it (I've given up on Monaghan now, although i would be tempted to switch him and Higham around once Briers is fit). I don't think we are too badly off in the other departments - but those players don't win you games.

I don't know what Smith's got in mind - but from various rumours it seems a huge clear out is on the cards, inevitably freeing up a lot of cap space. What Smith does with it is another matter.
