| Blimey Rico ... how can you get wound up by a nickname. I've rarely seen nicknames linked to achievement & never known anyone give themselves one. I reckon it is used on the forum cos It's so hard to remember how you spell Mata'utia. Memorable nicknames from school were Spot, Frog & Titsy ... all ... linked to physical ailments.

| Quote: Uncle Rico "Mata'utia isn't for me I'm afraid and I get the versatility, good bloke, if we can tempt him for one more year at a reduced rate thing. I'm sorry but I have been underwhelmed, particularly him playing at Centre from Day 1 and I had nothing against Powell bringing in who he thought were good characters.
I've no real reason to rant on such a beautiful morning, but there are times when he looks like he's retired already, never mind at season end or as some would have it the year following...and this Peanut moniker winds me up as IMO nicknames usually apply to folk that have done a bit and earned it. It's a status/acceptance thing as far as I'm concerned and he's achieved little in my book, he's not been here long enough for the longevity award, or done something heroic or game changing and Ok he might not have given that name to himself. .
Perhaps his other strong suit is reliability, I'm just not convinced that's sufficient, but hope he is enthused enough for the remainder of his time here to make me eat my words starting this weekend please Mr Peanut'"
Top post Uncle, you been looking in my head It’s exactly what I was thinking. Joking aside though but if it’s even true I would be so disappointed. Every time you think yeh great now we getting somewhere these things happen hence me wanting to go see Dr Strange.

| Has it actually been announced that Pea… I mean Matautia has re signed? I have made no secret of my view from day 1 that i am not a fan of “skippy”.His 1 on 1 tackling has become Barbaesque, his creativity is zero and his utility value does not outweigh his failings. In short I just don’t “get” him as a player.
Whatever people’s criticisms of ratchford, he has utility value, he kicks goals and has credit in the bank as far as I’m concerned. As an aside when watching the complete horlick that our fullback has made of high kicks i recall how safe and calm Stef was in that position.

Doesn’t Mata’utia also take up a quota place? That in itself represents poor value for me

| The other side of the coin I suppose is that players like Peanut, Minikin and Russel will not be on big money and will be used ( hopefully ) for cover / utility.

Russell has been worth signing but I can’t see what Minikin has brought to the table other than (presumably) being cheap.

That's my take on it, not every contract extension / signing needs to be pencilled in as a first team regular, to allow money to be spent on the likes of Vaughan / Dufty / Williams / Clark we need players who can cover many positions effectively at relatively low value in cap terms.
My ideal is that is covered by younger players in the system - but I don't think we are quite there with that yet, and I don't think it's as easy as saying 'just throw them in and give them a chance'. If you listen to Gary Chambers he'll talk about younger players being physically ready for SL before integrating them in. Whilst some players may well look ready for SL at 18 - Lucas Green for example, the club seem to be wanting to keep developing the players through college and university before they start to regularly give them gametime at 21. I get the impression the club think we are a couple of years away yet of being more self sustainable on that front - though that's just a feeling.
Of Russell, Mata'utia & Minikin, i'd imagine we'll wont to keep 2 - Minikin would be my preference to leave.

| Reports saying even though he's available we're not even considering Matt Lodge. You just never know until things get announced. Canterbury are currently talking to him so we've definately not signed him.
Mata'utia is a good utility player, but Ratchford will be that for us next year, so not sure we are trying to get Maa'utia to stay, unless we're not confident on the recruitment front?

I assume for an immediate return?
Can see this happening if the terms are mutually acceptable.
Wire shouldn't be offering him too much money though. He has the talent but hopefully he has now grown up.

Wow we must be really struggling on the recruitment front then. He's an ok player on his day but from what i've seen, but what role would he play, back up incase currie or Nicholson get injured. Or would we try to turn him in to a ball playing 13. He's got the skills for it.

| Livett isn't a bad player and I think someone Powell could get something out of... Would cover the two positions right now that we are struggling with

| retaining matautia, re-signing dwyer and possibly re-signing livett.
do they want me to stop watching? jesus
for those saying livett is a player, he was a bit part player at KR, a bit part player at salford and is barely a bit part player at huddersfield this year.
