I think you had to be there to be fair, It's difficult as you're not quoting him word for word, and there's no context. He wasn't having a pop at folk at all, in fact, I think it was more a generalisation of sports fans all together rather trying to segment our fanbase.

Absolutely agree, the point I think he was trying to make, was we aren't going to win every game, and yes we will have 'flat' performances, it happens - thats what happens in sport (I think is what he said), and yes EVERY Club will have its share of 'fans' and 'supporters' (you decide what you want to differentiate between the two).
Either way, I couldn't help feeling he was making a point about what happened 'previously', and wanted to draw a line under it.

Loved his comments to Adam Neal that 'you must not percieve yourself as not being part of the 1st Team, otherwise that is where you will stay'

The fact he stated that he spends more time on the 'mental coaching, and a reward style of coaching' to me spoke volumes. Think and act like winners, and you never know...

I personally found last night, very refreshing, and certainly TS is clearly not a Coach anyone is going to mess around with, as the path to the door will be shown very quickly.
Can't see him out on the raz with the players, apart from when we lift a Trophy, and even then I think he will keep a distance, he is Head Coach after all.

Felt good after last night, and really do feel we have someone who will bring a whole new dimension to Warrington.

Oh and I'll be increasing my monthly Squadbulder payments as well, as believe in what they are doing.

Yeah, I liked that bit too. Acknowledged he needed to know a bit about the game and tactics etc but felt that that amounted to only about 20% of his coaching. The rest was mental, attitude etc.

On the point of Fans/Supporters, because of where I live now and the needs of my job I can't get home (or away) very often, however I regard myself as both a supporter and a fan and I try to get to watch as much as I possibly can. I am sick of this talk of people jumping on the Bandwagon. The Club would be delighted if a few more people jumped on, it means more money. I am convinced that some people on here would be happy with being back at Wilderspool with 4500 gates again, just to be 'one of the few.'

It's like this nonsense you read on here about JCL's (Johnny Come latelies). Everyone was a JCL once, surely?

Again, Tony Smith did not make any comment on this. He did not comment on how far people travelled, how long they'd been watching, how many replica shirts they buy, season ticket holder or not. He was talking (i) about fans who only come to see the team win (and expect perfection every week) and (ii) those who come to support the team because it is their team and of course they want them to win but they know it won't always happen.

In any case I think the comments on this thread are attempting to develop the argument and address this underlying super fan crap that we see advanced on here.

I don't think there is much super fan crap. I think a lot of it is tongue in cheek.

I go to Quins home games sometimes but will never change allegiance im Wire through and through and if i could do the same job for the same pay i'd more back to the Northwest in a heartbeat.

Unfortunately life dictates that wire don't always come first in my life.
The main reason i actually come on this forum is homesickness and banter with like minded people which i don't get down here.
