| Ref Schmef. You're always going to get games like that. From where I stood Salford were pretty much always offside for a 10-15 min period, ref went to the screen for nearly all our tries. Ref let them hold us down and slow the ptb a fair amount.
The real reason that Wire 23 came back tonight was because we're not Wire 22 anymore. And long may that continue

| Philth…absolutely
Plus in the 1st half, Salford kept the game away from our props and countless one on ones against the outside backs or backrowers. It’s easy to blame the backs for missing tackles in a one on one, but it’s harsh and like blaming a goalkeeper for not saving a penalty.
Salford constantly had us on the back foot because of this, all it needed was for us to regain the ball and control the momentum. We did that, the sinbinning of Brierley was not significant to the Salford loss, that was already unfolding. Salford were already under the cosh and had so many penalties called against them throughout that initial early period of that momentum change.

| I’ll watch it again, but it looked like a clear attempt to slow the play down when we were on a roll. Salford pushed the line in terms of offside I felt. The game swung in massive momentum for both teams, we managed to post more points than then when we had momentum - that’s what the game came down to. We wouldn’t have got close to winning that game last year - great belief from the team when the fans were thinking ‘here we go again’!

| Watkins was lying on in EVERY tackle he made. The yellow for Brierly was harsh on him...but not on Salford. The knees on Thewlis when he scored was housery at its worst. First half from Wires was 2022. Second half was 2023. Onwards.

| People need to go have a look at that 2nd half, the sin bin was purely down to a totting up process. A handful of six again/penalties was why he was sin binned it could have been any player just happened to be Brierly which was the one player they could not afford to be off the field.

| What was the point of having Whitehead on the bench and giving him no game time.

spot on..it was an accumulation of constant offences in the tackle.

Possibly because the first half didn’t go quite the way DP had expected it too.

| What was the knock on decision that ruled out Dufty length of the pitch? Think it was Clarke. Was it a knock on? Hard to see anything at the ground or on the screen

| Also I’m not liking the combination of Minikin and Thewlis on the edge, if we go the same again next week HKR will have a field day especially if it’s on Kenny-Dowell’s side.

Clark was nowhere near the ball. Every time someone makes a poor pass the refs automatically think there was a hand involved. Watch it back and Clark only hits Croft and dufty goes the length. It should've been given. But hey ho, we only won because Brierley was binned!

| Ref was awful & Rowley's Championship level cheating and unpleasantness caught up with Salford, who played superbly in that 1st half, but tired in the second and reverted to the Rowley blueprint of lying on, constant offsides at the ptb, and gobbing off to the ref about everything. Shame really coz they show that they can play some good rugby.
Our defence needs to tighten up massively or we could be in big trouble in the not too distant future.
Well done on the comeback Wire, much prefer the class of 23 to the class of 22, but there's still a lot of work to do.
PS - Williams is looking like the real deal, which is great to see

| First half was poor. A mirror image of last season. Nice to see a little mental fortitude from our lot in the second half. If that was 2022's side, we'd've needed Prof. Brian Cox to keep count of the score.
Ref called it perfectly. A few on here seem to forget the "totting up" procedure for constant penalties (which has been in place for seasons) ...... next one's in the bin. Got his just desserts. Eight point tries were fair. The knee slide was despicable. Dead leg territory. Maybe the face slap to Dufty was a impulse thing, rather than foul play. Only the Salford player will know.
I'm still reserving judgement on this side. We went 3 from 3 last season, then, the less said about the rest of the year, the better. Let's see where we are, a few weeks after Easter.
More kicking practice required for Ratchford. Hitting the post from easy kicks will come back to bite us one day.
