One tip I'd give from our last few trips is avoid taxis down to the stadium! We've been stuck in traffic around the city centre for ages for the last two years and ended up with them trying to charge us £30+ as the metre was running (we did manage to get them down though).

We're going straight over to Chorlton for a few drinks this time and avoiding the centre pre match so we can get the met back the other way.

I haven't used the train for the GF before, what time do the queues start forming at Central? Are they bad before noon?

Last time we went, it was noon and it was busy on the platform, and a short train, not many carriages, we were hearing later on in the day from mates joining us that there was queues out of central station along winwick st, also ppl trying to get on at padgate and birchwood being turned away, had to wait a couple of hours and only got to old trafford just as the game was kicking off.

I'd say noon is the latest time to go before it'll get hectic, bank quay might be an option, if you don't mind a longer journey

I know last time i tried to get the train from Newton for the GF i finished up going home & getting the car out instead. In t hose days there were only two coach trains available, the one from Liverpool to Manchester & the one from Bank Quay to Manchester.The Liverpool Manchester service now uses four coach trains though.

I remember getting the 12.25 train from bank quay in 2011. We got a taxi to the station and went passed central, the queue was already at the bottom of the steps. In contrast to bank quay where there were about 10 people on the platform.

That was our first grand final and people might of wised up to bank quay a bit more now though.

I recommend Thaikhun at Spinningfields. Very reasonably priced Thai street food, but very busy so be prepared for a little wait.

Don't leave it later than 12 to get there. I know loads who ended up getting taxi's from central to old Trafford they were waiting that long. the trains afterwards are equally as much as a joke.

It would be quicker getting a train from Leigh or Culcheth station.

How long are you going back? Culcheth Railway Station closed in 1964!

Yes I know. You could catch the train to Wigan or Manchester from Newchurch Station
