Shame that some lovers that "support" the Wire are never happy, unless they're pulling a player to pieces

| Lets face it there are too many people who just don't like local guys doing well! This guy has gone through a run of emotions that most of us couldn't deal with, being a fresh face thrown into the big games scoring great tries, being dumped on by vastly experienced team mates to save their face, being ostracised by his own fans (not all), being exiled by the club, being brought back to the club and starting fresh, putting in solid performances to earn his spot plus the adulation of some of the fans. Most of that would have folks on some sort of anti depressant.
Not every player can be every ones favourite but Christ this lad is one of our own he's not on any holiday from Aus!!
I might be correct in thinking that if we had Eric Groth and Brian Bevan there would be scapegoatmanship from plenty of the loons on here!!!!

| Quote: Thelonius "Young lad, comes in to the sport relatively late, breaks into his home town clubs first team, scores miracle trys effortlessly, makes the dream team, gets found out all too often defensively, moves away from his home town club, plays at a lower and lower level and has to get a 'real' job driving a van, invited back to train with his home town club, breaks back into the first team, that team are top of the league and he doesn't look the slightest out of place. All we need is for Kev to go on and score the Grand Final winning try and you have yourself a ready made Hollywood script.
I've used Kev as an example to my kids on more than one occasion that if you have a dream, if you really want something, you never ever give up on it. Despite us having Gidley, Sandow, Hill and Currie, Penny is easily my favourite Wire player.'"
Good post that.
Kev is now a player first on my team sheet with Sandow and Hill on this seasons form and I'm very close to adding Atkins to that trio.

think you must have missed the post where RD said he thinks Gidley is washed up and showing signs of being over the hill.

| Gidley is in the next wave of 3 selections with Atkins and Currie.
Like I said "erm' in on form. Kurt is terrific but I think he started the season better.

I missed that too backslapper. Perhaps you should find the quote and post it, or is that a lie?

yes its a blatant lie, i just made it up.... to be honest, i dont really read your posts anymore, as they are only ever done to suit whatever agenda it is you have at the time... Chris Bridge is the best HB at the club, Sims isnt good enough... Now its ANYTHING to try and show that Ratchford is the best 6.
You're going back on block
Quote: rubber duckie "And to the discontent of the wire purists, Gidley, is he beginning to show he's battle worn already? Perhaps it's his age, but he's missing some tackles, missing kicks and at times going missing. Ratchford was the dominant half clearly v Pies and his game management cemented that win. For this reason, Ratchford must partner Gidley. With a proven hb partner Kurt can relinquish some responsibility put upon him helping to allow that form he had before his bang to the head to return.
I await the backlash off Gidley lovers and scapegoat propaganda posters.'"

| Quote: Ron "I don't think he is good defensively but that isn't my major worry... its his lack of size. I was cringing slightly in the last 20 minutes when I knew we needed a good set of 6 and to get down wigans end and heis taking a hit up. He is just too lightweight in my opinion and gets absolutely dominated in the tackle. Regularly seems to get held up and dragged back 5 yards, completely putting us on the backfoot in the set of 6.
If you compare this to how good wingers get their teams set of 6 started e.g. Charnley, manfredi, Briscoes, Hall etc who have the strength to get on the front foot it is light and day and makes it so much easier for the forwards following.
He possibly has to be more brave in the tackle and not run so upright into contact, and look to hit the deck quickly by driving low. Not sure, he just seems to casually jog into the opposition defence anticipating getting held up.'"
Sorry mate but you're talking drivel.
He has an average gain of 8.27, better than Russell, Lineham, and Sims.
I know you can't rely on statistics but this stat is a good indicator that when he does take the ball in he's making yards.

Penny makes good metres after the collision. Compared to the 17 1/2st Lineham he is far superior.

Yup, making metres above his weight, arguably.

And my post didn't come close to saying anything like your post said I had.
Thanks for the kind block. Made my day.

I am just going off watching the games, I must confess I haven't looked at stats. The stats you mentioned suggests he is a better carrier than Russell, Manfredi etc but then tackle busts show he makes half what they do.

| There's actually a thread on the VT where fans of other clubs are expressing their admiration for what Kev has achieved coming back after all his lows.
On this board we have this...

Maybe he will be the first player ever to have his own fans chant "wire reject" to him? To be fair to him he's played very well so far this season, a few mistakes last Friday aside (being picky, everyone makes mistakes and he recovers well from them). I don't really care where he is on any stats lists, for me he is in the team on merit this season. Plus with what he has already been through I would back him to improve further as the season goes on.
