Tonight before your mummy tucks you in bed....try a little experiment.
close your eyes and poke your left eye with a stick
next...keep your eyes open and using that same stick, poke your eye
Now...which hurts the most?
evolution has provided us with an eyelid to protect people from gouging pie eaters.....and a lot of the time it works
(For any readers, do not try this at home)

Watch it again and see if you feel it deserves an 8 match ban.
I defo think it should be 1 for the punch and 2-4 for the attempt at gouging.'"
So just to clear this up, in your opinion attempting to eye gouge a person warrants a 2 game ban ( even though its 4 minimum)... so in your opinion does a person have to remove a players eyeballs to get a 4 plus game ban?

It was wrong what Hock did was stupid, I don't know what he was doing but he does touch Harrisons eye but not to the point as shown in the link below, it was careless, it was stupid and it was wrong especially the uppercuts that followed but in the cold light of day it wasn't like in the link below like some people make it out to be.

He was shoving his fingers into Harrisons eyes, have you ever done this to a person accidentally... any attempt to do this imo should be an 8 game ban at least.
Does a player have to be blinded before it is taken seriously.
Oh and it was very similar to that link.

I think your being a little harsh Ron. I think because we haven't had anyone done for gouging for as long as I can remember, the Hock incident is getting blown out of proportion.
If you watch the repeat of the incident 'on mute' without the muppets on sky giving you their opinion it aint that bad, the nearest he gets is the tip of his index finger touches his eyelid when his eyes are shut, which wouldn't cause much pain, prob wouldn't feel a thing with the adrenaline pumping, I've had a stray finger/thumb in the eye many a time playing rugby and a few times sparring which wasn't painful just makes the eyes water, the link I gave previously 'is' most definatley eye gouging, the Hock incident was nowhere near as bad.

| No it's gauging that ain't being blown out of proportion at all you prick. Gauging is gauging, it's the worst house tactic that a rugby player can perform, part from bum an official on the pitch.
there's a reason it carries an 8 game ban is because anyone who plays or has played this game knows there is a tough honesty that goes with rugby league. Be the big man, yes pleaase, be the little house half back that jincks his way over, we'll clap that all day.
Get hurt honestly banging yourself against a big pack, we'll clap you off he pitch.
Be a house that picks another player up by the eyes like a bowling ball then you have no place in this sport.
You sir have never put a kit on, and have no idea of the unwritten rules of gobery that Hock (Charnock- let's not open that can) has done.
Look sunshine. If I came round to yours tonight and shat on your living room carpet , would you say that what I did what inexcusable. If I said it was accidental would that be any less excusable ... no
Now off !

I cannot believe anyone is even trying to defend or belittle what the psycho, drug using, cheap shot merchant did.
Some Wigan fans are making themselves look very shabby over this...VERY SHABBY.

But it is irrelevent whether he hurt Harrison or not ( I agree h didn't seem to hurt him)... its the fact he attempted to thats the problem.
Like I said, attempted eye gouging should be an 8 game minimum ban (this mean attempted, not actually succeeding in causing damage).. if he had actually caused permanent damage to Harrison eyes he would be lucky to play rugby ever again if it was up to me.

They made a point of showing it on Granads Reports or do you not get it in your Region??,
I am still waiting for some Wigan fans to actually tell me just what does Gareth Hock bring to a Rugby League field apart from sheer thuggery.

| Wait a minute but you can clearly hear Harrison scream when Hock does what he does. Ok there may have been no "injury" but there must have been pain for Harrison to scream out.
What he did was not defendable.

It was an awful thing to do and it was then compounded by the punch. Two charges, one long ban to follow. Mind you, when the ban's over he'll get another hero's welcome from the fans when he comes back.'"
Yes, that's exactly what happened. Oh wait...

I thought there was much excitement over his return!
I would check the forum but you already know it is true

It wasn't so much a hero's welcome for Hock as a vomfest of self-indulgent backslapping by Lenagan and co for transforming Hock into some sort of repentant latter day saint. He had, we were told in many a newspaper article and TV piece, got his act together and was taking care of Wigan orphans and healing the sick.
Anyway, bravo to the Wigan fans for the following in this thread:
- Hock's act can't have been that bad because Harrison can still see;
- Hock's act can't be that bad because someone else once did an even worse gouge.

Excitement and heroes welcome are two different things. I don't think anyone condoned his behavior; but either way that doesn't stop him being an exciting player. No doubt you're now going to say something about the eye gouging, I'd say don't waste your time as I already think it was deplorable.
