That is pretty much spot on. There is no culture or history in Warrington that is worth mentioning, now they want to sell and redevelop Walton Garden. It's disgusting.
I can't think of one place in Warrington with a bit of culture or hostory that you can visit for a day outhttps://www.welcometowarrington.comrl is a shining example of the state of Warrington cultural and historical attractionsWhether you are here for an hour, a day or longer Warrington has something for everyone. Boasting fine buildings and historical sites, visitors can get a real insight into Warrington's rich past. For the more active visitor Warrington can offer a range of activities.
Warrington Town Centre
With an eye-catching and award-winning environment for shoppers and visitors and family entertainment it has to be Town Centre Warrington. Renowned and popular attractions including Warrington Museum & Art Gallery, the Parr Hall and Pyramid arts centre based within the Cultural Quarter of the town
Picturesque Villages
With picturesque villages and canal walks and home to an array of parks, woodland and gardens Warrington has plenty to offer those who enjoy the outdoors. '"
And that's it. That's what Warrington has to offer: a town centre and some parks. Can someone please tell me where the "rich past" of Warrington can be seen in this town? Bewsey Old Hall could have been lovely restored as tourist attraction, there is plenty of help available from English Heritage, but the council would rather be lining their pockets that leaving anything of importance in this town.

Most accurate post on this thread. If people don't like Walton Gardens then it's simple, don't go.

I don't know much about all this, but is there a danger some scaremongerers have added 2 and 2 and got 5?
What about thisThe council has to keep the land open for public use because of a covenant agreed when it was handed the keys by Lord Daresbury.
The council’s aims are to secure the future of the hall, create jobs and retain the parkland in public ownership. '"

Sounds quite good actually?
More info needed I think.

| Quote: The All New Chester Wire "It's part of the Philistinisation of life generally. As 71 has pointed out before, Warrington is pretty much a cultural backwater and whilst limited, Walton Gardens does have some attractions. Shame the Heritage Centre with its history of the property and the Lewis Carroll story has closed. There is an interesting bike collection there at the moment.'"
It is a shame about the Heritage Centre, I've been a fan of that and often take my child to see it. The Lewis Caroll stuff is something Warrington should boast more about.
4 generations of my family (that I know of) have enjoyed Walton Gardens over the years.

| Think the councils idea is a good one. They have no money to do anything with the place & if it doesn't get sold will fall into rack & ruin. At least this way the rest of the park will be preserved & improved.

In fairness to the Council, the HSE was behind the removal of the equipment. Orford Park is choc full of play equipment.

Intriguing concept.
I'm going golfing on Saturday morning, but I'm not an elitist snob nor do I have stupid trousers.

Just to remind you, this thread relates to the potential loss of a much loved public amenity, not 2 posts about petty class hate from people with an obvious chip on their shoulders. To quote "rich elitist snobs" and wanting that (Lymm) pompous pooh hole to be tarmaced, just goes to illustrate this.
I, like Mass Effect, will be playing golf on Saturday, wearing a pair of normal trousers. I am in no way, an "elitist snob", as the fact of being born in Bewsey, lived in the Wilderspool area, and have lived in Padgate for the last 12 years, will bear me out.
Enough of your Proletariat attitude, or I'll set one of Lord Daresbury's Beaters onto you.
