Why do we have to rely on the drum to get us singing? We managed for years and years without a drum. Are we not capable of sining without it?
I personally like the drum at games but if we have to rely on that to start singing we have a problem.

| The atmosphere today was exactly as expected. If anyone thinks that the atmosphere for a game v Crusaders was going to be anywhere the same as for a game v Wigan/Saints then people are going to be very disappointed.
There are a number of contributing factors that influence the atmosphere at the game, not least
1. the history between the 2 clubs
2. as Odemwingie ( I cant believe i'm saying this) rightly stated the noise generated by the away following
3. even the kick off time. For me most of the games with the best atmospheres kick of in the evening, not in the afternoon.
It cannot be artificially generated with song sheets. Its about passion and what you feel at the time.
Im a 40 year old supporter. I didnt sing a word today but a fortnight ago against Wigan I sang myself ho.
I would guess there are a fair few like me.
The reason, history, tradition, passion of the fixture
I have no memories of Crusaders games, i have no feelings for them one way or another, no reasons yet to overly dislike them ( other than the fact they are not Warrington RLFC )
Now with Wigan on the other hand, I carry a trunk full of memories and passion - some good, some sad. There is a big difference
And dont get me started about Saints - turn them over in a fortnight and you'll hear me singing ( and sobbing) back in Warrington.

| For mine, the biggest reason for the lack of atmosphere at the HJ is the layout of the stadium. Alot of people like me grew up standing in the Fletcher Street. I tried a few games in the South Stand as I like singing but I struggled to watch from the side of the pitch. So I moved into the East where I see alot of familiar faces both from our Wilderspool days, and current away days where we all mass up in one section of our opponents stadiums.
To add to the above point, the South stand is alot more spread out than Fletcher Street which results in little pockets of singing areas, normally on opposing ends (the drummers at the screen side, and the fans that like taunting the away support at the other).
So If the standing section of the HJ was in the East Stand for home support only, although less in numbers due to less space, the noise would be louder as its more compact & more people that sing would be closer together.

| To be honest, I felt the atmosphere against Wigan was a bit down on previous years. Now the atmosphere against Quins was top notch, everyone seemed up for it, although it being the first game after a long close season no doubt contributed to that.
The atmosphere yesterday was subdued. A fair few tried to make an effort and I know those will be nursing sore throats this morning, as I am. We were 2 drummers short yesterday and it was left down to the 2 young lads who haven't had a great deal of experience in creating an atmosphere. I know someone took over the job towards half time and it improved quite a bit, he didn't have his regular drum though, so wasn't quite as affective has he could have been.
As Walter Wizard said, people rely on the drummers to start the songs, when in truth, only one song (Carnival De Paris) needs the drummers to start it, the rest can be started by anyone. I like to think of the drummers as keeping people in tune and helping the atmosphere along, rather than being the sole creators.
As we've shown a few times over the years, we don't need to be playing one of the bigger teams to get a good atmosphere. York at home in the cup last year was a good example, when there was a low crowd and a single drum, yet everyone was singing along and enjoying themselves.
I'm not entirely sure writing down the songs would be a bad idea. Maybe someone could create a web page with all the songs on it, just for reference purposes. A link to said web page with a warning of expletive deletives next to it could be placed on here, to cover the mods backs, rather than having to attempt to bypass the swear filter and risk having it removed.
All in all, instead of waiting for a drummer to start up with a song, start one yourself, it'll either fall flat on its face, or it'll contribute. Either way you have nothing to lose

Agree entirely, moving to the West stand is an idea I've always supported. With the stewards forcing any drummers to either side of about the 25m mark in each direction this season (apparently due to radio communication problems), people are even further apart now.
I don't know how it would, maybe a small partition for games against the bigger clubs half way up the South stand would allow us have both sets of fans in the South, with the West being home only. Obviously after 6 years at the stadium, a lot of people are settled in their favourite spot. But who knows eh?
