Penny looked very strong in defense at the start of the year, I thought.

It's difficult to work out what he's done wrong this year. Granted he doesn't fit the current standard for a SL winger, but that for me is what makes him so entertaining, his ability to do the unexpected.

It's difficult to think Rhys Evans will be a first choice player. He can be brilliantly excellent but he picks up too many injuries to realistically be regarded as a starting winger.

Russell would be my first choice as left winger, although at the minute you can't drop ormsby.

For me Kev would be behind Russell , Ormsby and Rhys next year for the other wingspot , He's one of few players who can put you on the edge of your seat when he gets the ball in expectation that he's gonna do something special. But he's still painfully frail in defence . I dont buy into this putting the blame on his centres all the time .. i dont recall either Atkins or Matt King leaving any other of the wingers they partnered exposed in every game the way they were always accused of doing with Kev ..

Quote: hesford "With the signing of Lineman, what now for Penny?. He is box office ,the only player bar Ratch that has any pace. Matty Russell is another 'conundrum'. Penny and Lineman on the wings looks good ,pace and power, and ability to put bums on seats.

I think Penny would go down a storm in NRL.Real shame a son of Howley is not rated by "Agar the Horrible" and St Tony.'"

In the same way that he went down a storm in the Championship 1 with Swinton? Sorry, but he wouldn't get a game in the NSW Cup.

Feel sorry for Kev a bit as he has done ok on his return and obviously has that X factor pace which our backline misses but as has been said above, he is now behind Ormsby, Lineham, Evans, Joel for next season so I can't see us keeping him on.

There's nothing better than seeing him in full flow down the wing but we have rarely done that for him really since his return and unfortunately, his defence is not good enough.

He has improved no end since his first spell but just not quite enough for me.

Never forget the try at Saints in the cup (despite them targeting him in that game) and the hat-trick in the home league game as well

There's not much room for sentiment in professional sport and whilst I admire Penny's pace, enthusiasm and resilience in having another 'go', all things being equal on the injury front and if Monaghan leaves or vies for a centre spot, I'd have Rhys first pick for the other wing followed by Ormsby before Penny and then Russell

Didn't he sign a contract extension earlier this season?

He originally signed for 12 months for 2014 with a 1 year option, that was taken up, for 2015.

Don't think there's been another contract extension ?

I guess it comes down to how many wingers can you afford to keep in a salary capped squad?

For 2016 we have Lineham, Monas (until told otherwise) Evans, Ormsby, Penny & Russell vying for two spots, with presumably more players ready to move up from the U19's in a year or so. Thats 6 wingers (5 if Monas departs / moves to centre) which seems one too many for me in a squad of 25.

It comes down to how you rank the current wingers we have. Personally Ormsby has moved in front of Penny at present, although they've run eachother close all year. Evans along with Monas & Lineham are the standouts and I liked the look of the potential of Russell on the wing. Scored some decent tries, has pace and crucially would give us back the metres & that quick play the ball on our ball returns which was his trademark from full back.

Every one can recall some pretty amazing tries/plays from the guy, its how regularly those performances/tries occur that is the important thing, the other players for me are more consistently better, its just that moment of magic that he can bring.

It depends on who the coach favours really, penny could have scored the tries Ormsby has this year if he was playing. Ormsby is more solid though with a better impact so I can see why he is favoured, I'm a bit biased as I love penny I thinks he's awesome and deserves game time. But Ormsby is doing everything right so happy days.

If he stays injury free I would go with Evans and Lineham can't see Joel playing wing next season as stated earlier too many players for two positions, got to agree with RD and ninearches we need to bring back the A team without hesitation.
