This training is to COMBAT the Wigan tactic, not COPY it.

The RFL and NRL need to be monitoring this trend very, very carefully. Wrestling and MMA techniques to win the collision are one thing. However Wigan's suspect morality meant it quickly sunk to attacking and manipulating knee joints in an attempt to injure opposition players. We really don't need clubs other than Wigan looking for new techniques to injure players, the game is dangerous enough as it is.

I would much prefer to marvel at the level of skill on display than the number of half nelsons ,full body slams & leg over step locks during a match.

From the posts on this thread (particularly from Saints and Wigan fans) it seems that the majority of people haven't bothered to watch and LISTEN to the video before commenting.

Quite! Clearly states the whole exercise is to help Warrington players get themselves OFF the floor quickly. Obviously this is in order for a quick PTB and to negate other teams holding down tactics. No mention of holding down, wrestling, grappling or winning any collisions.

Wigan already have a tactic for quick play the ball. They surrender themselves in the tackle immediately.
There game is not to readily look for an off load like us.
Pie emphasis is on a structured (BORING) game plan.
As well as looking to mane the opposition key backs.

Absolutely right. Smith is not joining the Wigan/Huddersfield defensive tactic, he's looking for a way of defeating it.

No one actually believes that do they?? I know some fans are incredibly naïve about what goes on in training, but seriously - anybody who believes what Tony Smith was saying (or more importantly not saying) there must be soft in the head.

He is right, it is about getting OFF the floor quickly..... it is also about turtling the ball carrier and making sure you get to floor on your terms when you are on attack.
