| Didn't we have a similar performance against Hull KR, but then got a try with 3 minutes to go and the resulting discussion on here was about how Tony Smith was coaching genius. There was no discussion about the weakness of individual players after that game...
If some Catalan player had made a screw up in the final minute that led to a try from us, we would all be discussing again what a genius Tony Smith was, how the spirit in the side was never say die.

| Forget this season and this game, Clarke IS slow at the h/b, he IS readable and always has been.
He's a good defender but never seen much in him when we attack.

| sal.. today's game was on a par with Hull KR... we didn't deserve to win both.... we got lucky in one of them... the other we didn't.... just goes to show we aren't the team everyone thinks we are... especially with frontline players missing.....
still better than the last 20 years though im not complaining (much)

Smith got to take the responsibility for that....

Briers "cack"....
Clueless....
We need to win the Grand Final, not a match in April against Catalans (or one against Huddersfield come to that).
Both Bens, Atkins and possibly Louis back next week. King by Easter.
Excellent squad - cover all over the park.
Calm down.
Thank you.'"
glad someone has said it. I was quite shocked with how many ppl walked out without clapping the lads off its the start off the season they need know that we r there for them - we cant win everything although i would love it if we could

| if the ball that myler patted back had bounced differently we could all have been on here celebrating 2 points, ffs calm down, half the people on this board seem to be buying into saints and wigan fans saying that our season is shot because we can't beat catalans.

Well that depends on what team everyone thinks we are?
I certainly didn't think we were going to go through the year without these blips.
I remember at the start of the season posting a thread saying if we finished top 3 but didn't win a trophy would that be seen as a good or bad season, I got told off for being so negative....I thought at the time thats a realistic estimate of what will happen. Since then I've got more optimistic, now I reckon we will finish top 2 and I reckon there's about 40% chance of us winning a trophy. If you'd asked me about our chances of winning a trophy any other year I've supported Wire I would have said less than 5%.

and these days lets be honest you're thinking its 50/50.....
2 trophy's to play for..... and we have already beaten the best other 3 teams (well maybe huddersfield we havent)...
our problem isnt beating the best teams... its beating mediocre when we have players missing and were off the boil.
If we would have finished second last season i think we could have gone on and won the whole shabang.... wigan dont seem to be a problem for smith and the players.....but we didnt get 2nd... maybe fatigue set in with the cup run... maybe we just found our level.
this year is a whole new ball game though... exciting times.
I'm 34 and i have been through all the e.... these days are amazing.

| Well 40% is an optimistic estimate, it's probably more like 25-35%. Granted there are two trophies to play for but, in either the Challenge Cup or the later rounds of the playoffs its one slip and you're out so you have to factor in a risk factor for having 'a bad day' or maybe having a run of injuries at the wrong time. Look at say Bradford in 2000 and Leeds in 2005 early season you'd have thought they'd steamroller it but by the end of the year they were not the same team, hit by injuries and so on. But still 25-35% chance of winning a trophy is good enough for me.
I'd be happy if we averaged 2-3 trophies every ten years, taking into account good times and bad times.

| yea... fair point... you're always one defeat away from winning nothing....
makes you appreciative of back to back challenge cup wins really.
To win 3 would be one hell of an achievement.

Firstly, I knew things were bad when 15 mins in the bloke behind me had "seen 'em out in Stockton Heath, 'ont lash." so, welcome to 2005.
Anyhow, I know we're a bit up & down on here, I know I am. I thought we were unbeatable when I woke up, now - they'll be lucky to make the eight. I guess that's called setting yourself up for a fall, but hey ho.
I did find it disappointing today to be honest, I thought too many people didn't compose themselves at key times and at the same time, I thought a few people when push came to shove went back to the old versions of themselves instead of the calmer, almost more structured versions that has brough success. Silly things like Solomona not getting up & playing the ball properly 5m out when he'd won the floor, Briers just launching a kick in the air, Myler just not doing enough, Blythe not running with venom like he has done, Paul Wood not securing the ball in collision, just daft things - I think we just found a day when perhaps 7/8 players underperformed, 5/6 and we'd have got away with it, or if Monas has played the 80 it could have been 9/10 having a mere and he'd have Jean-Phillipe Baile'd us out.
Anyhow, lick our wounds - hope today hasn't come at too much of a cost. Carvell will have an anxious wait, Monas, Bridge & Briers all must have have knocks of sorts, but we'll move on.
It's probably just given Smith some food for thought really, if he had a plan of how to get through the season and who he can rest & where, it's probably made him think that one to a degree.

I'll leave it at that i think.

| Sorry Chester, you are wrong, the season is over. We were lucky to beat Saints, Leeds and Wigan. The mauling of Harlequins was pure luck. Not a chance we will make the play-offs, our season will be truly over when Keighley turn up.
