On paper its great I have put money on us to do well but you still can't just expect whats on paper to perform perfect on the pitch its never that simple, top five come the end of the season and having a good crack at the playoffs and I will be very happy.

League - Top 4 has to be the target at least, with a good run in the Play Offs.

Challenge Cup - who knows, what if you get Leeds away first game - it will be tough then - get good draws we'll do well obviously.

First up sundays game against the quinns. Without Louie McCarthy Scarsbrook and Rob Purdham I think the Quinns will be there for the taking. Anything less than a comfortable win (30pts+) will be a dissappointing performance from the wire in my book.
Challenge Cup. I expect a vigarous defence and anything less than a semi final berth will be a massive dissappointment.
'"

Two points...

1. A 30+ win on Sunday is being very, very optimistic....I think just securing the 2 points would be acceptable, a top notch display will be a bonus at this stage of the season....For most sides, including ourselves, it will be at least April before they will be playing anywhere near their best.

2. Why at least the semis??....Surely in the Cup it comes down to WHO you get knocked out by and not which round?...So, by your reasoning, getting done by Leeds in the opening round is unacceptable, but being beat by, for example, Wakefield or Salford in the Semi would be acceptable??... icon_confused.gif

Every year there is a lot of pre season hype and normally wire fail to deliver, but having said that I allways live in hope, last year was an awful start and I was at the the stoop for that hiding we got, but we got the challenge cup and that was magic.
So lets hope, we have a fantastic stadium, coach, training facillities and a squad to be envied.Bring it on,can't wait.

Cup: as others have said it depends on the draw. Going out to Leeds away in round 1 would be a big disappointment but no disgrace

SL: Top four should be our expectation, anything more is a bonus

Sunday: 2 points even if we win by a drop goal. Silly to 'expect' a 30-point margin.

Eighth in the league, knocked out the Cup by Saints early on and "Smith Out" chants by May.

Challenge Cup. I expect a vigarous defence and anything less than a semi final berth will be a massive dissappointment.
Super League. Top 4 finish is expected anything less would not be acceptable.
Playoffs. I expect us to make the GF, i wouldn't expect us to win it on our first attempt but i would expect us to give it a very good go.
Games against Saints. If we dont win at least one game against saints then i will be very surprised.'"

This is why opposing teams fans see us as arrogant.

By your reckoning if we only win by say 6-10 points on Sunday, that won't be acceptable? I expect a tough opener on Sunday, I expect us to win but don't think it'll be the walkover you're expecting. If we fail to win by 30 points will you be going home moaning?

As others have already stated with regards to the cup, what if we draw Saints or Leeds away? Is it shameful to go out in the 4th, maybe 5th round if you play one of the best teams in the league. If you get beat by the better team on the day, that's life.

Top 4 probably is expected but has been for the last 3/4 years. I'd be delighted if we finish top 4 but won't find it unacceptable if we don't, providing we are in the play-offs and have a good crack at it. Building consistency is going to be vital this year and for future seasons. It's something we have always seemed to lack.

As for Saints, surely we're due one by now?

If there's one lesson from the last few seasons its that starting off at a hundred miles an hour is absolutely no guarantee that you'll win anything at the end of the season. With Myler on board I'd guess Smith will want to work on combinations and different tactics in the early games, and he'll probably be far less concerned with the scorelines than most fans.

We have these type of expectations every year. Look back to the threads at the start of every season when Cullen was in charge, the usual predictions included being our year to beat Saints, top three finish, at least a final.

Hopefully we will be better than we have been in the past but a top 5 finish and no silverware is more likely than the delusions bomberwells has.

A number of people on here were thinking that after our last friendly match so Sunday could result in meltdown!

i expect us to murder them, if we don't and just win by a point that'll do. If we lose i'll just be mildly disappointed, 1st game of the season we can recover

Whatever the result we won't be as bad as some people say or as good as some people say.
