I seem to remember a couple of players doing the same and starting on the bench the following day

| We aren't desperate to get him in the team. We shouldn't be looking to change the team for the sake of it anyway.
He is returning from injury, played 80m in the reserves, and should come into contention during the next fortnight IMO.

True.
It's good to see a new signing can't get a sniff of first team action.
Or is it?

Wouldn't class him as a new signing, more of a afterthought.
I can imagine the conversation with wigan went something like:
Wigan: £100k for Gleeson
Wire: Erm... not sure
Wigan: Ok, we'll throw Mathers in for free
Wire: Deal

Rubbish.
I bet as such, the deals were two seperate entities only linked by value, ie, Gleeson to Wigan, £100-120k, Mathers to Warrington £20k, knocked off the £120k, so just £100k. Had Mathers not joined Warrington, It wouldn't have impacted on the Gleeson transfer.
Obviously all values made up. If you think Smith would just 'take a player' that he's not too fussed about having, your daft. Everything he has done since his arrival has been about shaping this team to become 'his team'.

So Kevin Penny was playing regular football before Tony Smith took the helm?
As for Reardon, it was one of the best things Smith has done since he's been here.

Smith knows how to bring the young lads through, and if Penny can't develop under sombody like him, well that's down to Penny.

| I agree re Mathers he didn't do much, expected more from someone of his standing. If you read Warrington Wolves website Mathers is supposed to have been outstanding. He must of been at a different game. He had a solid Performance as did alot of them. He did shout alot but to no effect, I realise he has just come back from an op, so don't want to appear too harsh and given time and if he earns his stripes he may well be an asset. But lets not say he was outstanding, when he wasn't. Riley is working hard and has shown some form and deserves his shirt.

| Don't see how Mathers can replace Riley at full back, with his two tries today, he deserves his place.
If only he could desist from causing chaos when the opposition kick the ball high and he can tend to get in the way.

If he is injured he will - Riley was limping @ the end of the match with his thigh iced up
