Go on the Leeds board and they say exactly the same thing. They could not be expected to win as Wire's pack was so much bigger than theirs. They also reckon that Child's bias to Wire cost them the game.

| As for the Westwood incident, a late challenge that unfortunately just managed to to clean out Sutcliffe through an unlucky contact. At least it wasn't orchestrated thuggery on the scale of Ferres on Gildart.
As for good performances, Hill, Sims in defence ,Benny as ever, Russell would be far more effective as interchange scooter than Dwyer,Patton, Atkins, the King brothers & Lineham, all good value for money tonight.

Clearly you saw the Westwood incident differently to most that was a deliberate contact it's clearly visable !!

The irony is, i rarely comment after losses, because everyone jumps on the bandwagon then, as they do when we win... old trafford?
I commented after the Brisbane game saying I wasn't impressed, when everyone was talking like we would walk the league... and this performance certainly doesn't change my views on the coach, or several of our big earners.
Poor Leeds performance, coupled with us getting a few favourable calls meant a hard fought win.
We still lack creativity... Patton has the potential to be a great controlling half, but Gidley offers next to nothing in attack... his kicking game in general is poor, as is his decision making.
Until Gidley is replaced by a creative half (not brown) we are going to struggle, Sims couldn't break a paper bag, I hope he isn't on a big wage.
Evans not starting is certainly a step in the right direction.

| Really chuffed we got the first win and credit should be given to our attitude which got us through. Really agree with the comments on Philbin and George King as well. What happened to Cooper last night? Either way, I think it may be the kick up the backside he needs as he hasn't been overly impressive, especially considering the reputation he'd built in Oz.
Pattern was excellent and Hill is getting back into his stride to mention a few. But I think our next step is to develop a plan b and c. The quick ptbs and attack around the ruck worked well last night but I think we'll need more against Cas and a Wigan side with all their players back and Leeds on another day. We could do with some more moves to open space up and our passing needs to be worked on as it can be a bit static.
Anyhow, let's hope were heading in the right direction. COYW.

I said exactly the same, regarding the Broncos game. A great cameo from Philbin that night, too. It's just a pity that the lad either never follows it up in his next match, or gets dropped for a returning player. I'm convinced there's a rugby league player in there, somewhere.
Smith. Why pick Evans as an interchange, but not use him til the dying embers of the game. He's done this umpteen times with players, sometimes not using them at all, during his coaching career with us. Baffling.
Sims. You can't fault the fella for effort, but, come on. BREAK A BLOODY TACKLE, OR GAIN SOME BLOODY YARDS THROUGH LEG DRIVE. As soon as contact is made, he stops. Bar an offload, that's not good enough for a Test Match experienced prop. That petulant stamp was pathetic and the last thing we needed after Westwood's muppetry.
Gidley.I'm sorry, but I just don't get the hero worship for him, by some on here. We've basically paid a lot of money for a bloke with a big gob, who shouts to his teammates what they should be doing. For a seasoned NRL "legend", I want a lot more with ball in hand.
Some good performances last night. Keep it up, Wire. Just try and play some rugby for us, next week, eh.
P.S. Pray for Eddie Hemmings cat, today. As soon as Hemmings put his key in the lock last night, the poor little mite bolted for the airing cupboard, and hasn't come out since. Poor thing must be starving, now.

I think you need to be a bit more objective. The turning point of this game came in the second half at 18-14. leeds were on a roll, they had just scored and were getting quick play the ball against a tiring Wire. Gidleys' try made the game safe for us and combined with Pattons clever high kicks, it put the game to bed. Gidley is now far too slow and he will be gone anyway by the end of the season, but his contribution tonight probably won us the game.

| I'll chuck my two pence worth in about Benny.
Should have gone - he had more than enough time to avoid the contact and it was a silly thing to do.
I suspect C-D charge in match review and should get Easter off.

| Tremendous display. Great to see the players back and fighting for the result. Hopefully we can really push on from here.
Philbin, Hill, Patton all outstanding.
Westwood should have walked, but he didn't.... That really set the tempo for the rest of the game. We never took a backwards step and dominated Leeds in the tackle.
More of the same next week please.

| My opinion on last night.....
Our 1st win = great stuff
The fact that it was Leeds and they were 2nd in the table = great stuff
The act of sheer stupidity from Westwood in the 1st minute of the match that could have lost us the game = ridiculous, deserves whatever ban he gets, penalty machine
Lineham, T King, Patten, Philbin, G King = very good (Patten stand out player, no place for Brown unless Patten/Gidley gets a knock)
Ratchford, Atkins, Russell, Gidley, Hill, Westerman = good, but need to improve ball control, passing accuracy, daft mistakes & penalties (Hill always seems to give away a couple a game)
Clark, Hughes = nothing too spectacular on the night, Clark took a couple of knocks, I don't think Hughes does spectacular
Dwyer, Evans = would rather see Savelio & Julien on the bench, would rather not see Evans at all
All in all, not a result I was expecting, we got the rub of the green with a couple of decisions (amazed that Westwood only got 10 in the bin, even though a nutcase stood near me spent the whole of the 1st half trying to convince anyone that would listen that it was a legitimate challenge and shouldn't have even been a penalty!), and if we keep playing like that we will win more than we lose.
We do need to cut out the silly penalties and look more dangerous with ball in hand in front of the oppositions line, but this is a massive step forward from where we have been in the past few weeks.....Well done Wire!
(remember kids, these are opinions only............. )

| Am I the only oneyjsy thinks Westwood's hit in minute 1 help win us the game,
He took out probably Leeds biggest threat, creative and goalkicker in one hit.
It's unfortunate he couldn't have finished Matty Smith otherwise we'd have won a GF by now.
Pies were more effective that day on Ratchford.
Tactical biff wins games. Naughty but effective. It's RL answer to getting a touch in the football box and taking a dive.

I very much doubt it was a bit of tactical biff, probably brain fart, so no I don't agree with you on that score. But yes, Singleton was a crucial player to lose as he is a very creative player and Golding is no replacement goal kicker. It also meant they were one short on the bench - and both sides were looking decidedly tired in the last 20 minutes.
