Usain Bolts autobiography - very very good.

He knows he's got a freakish talent but it's taken him ages to come to terms with it, and even then he's realized he's got to work is socks off to get where he's got.

The work ethic is something that clearly comes out in the book - unlike Lees (even though he's often been puking up at the end of training sessions).

I started the Briers book but got fed up of the confused jumble of chapters. Got bored of reading about pranks and drinking and how he stayed loyal to Warrington because the money wasnt right for a move !

It is basically a story of a bloke who was snubbed at his first club, moved on, pi$$ed about for 10 years then realised what you needed to do to be successful.

A better idea was probably for his wife to write a book !

Still a legend though

=============================================================================

My recommendations for an autobiography:

Danny Baker - Going to Sea in a Sieve.

Part one of his life, funny, sad, uplifting - cant wait for the second book

Sali - yes it is.
£20 hardback is the cover price but I guess you'll be able to find it cheaper.

Having read 5 chapters over the weekend I have to say this is such a poor book, the amount of times things are repeated in just these chapters is appalling.
We all knew they were drinkers but to hear how much they had to drink just makes me angry, still.

Was thinking about getting the Briers book at xmas but thankfully (after reading the reviews on here) it wasn't available for the Kindle.
read Moz and thought it was a good read.

Now on to David Jason's and its already looking like a good read.

Bolt has an autobiography out already.......jesus wept.

Thanks for the tip though, at least I know now to avoid it.

As for Lee's, got it for Xmas, just started reading it. It's okay at the moment. Gotten right into autobiographies. Not read Moz's yet, so will have that next. I'll have to look at getting Wayne Bennett's too.

To be fair at least Bolt has stuff to write in it as he's been the world's best for about 6 or 7 years.

Kevin Pietersen had a book out the year he made his Test debut and even by then he had made loads of enemies he wanted to slag off.

Seriously thinking of giving up on this book, read two more chapters and the amount of times stories are repeated word for word is shocking. The ghost writer is awful and the editing is shocking!

Got Briers book as a Christmas present. Reflects his approach to life I suppose. Disorganised, chaotic and profligate with a sublime god given talent.
I have to admire his honesty though as many players have tried to gloss over some of the dubious aspects of their behaviour in their autobiographies.
Terry Clawson's book which I think was called 'All the wrong moves' or something similar is a great read and he wrote the whole thing himself without ghost writers etc.

I think your missing the point here , Lee admits his lack of academic background and gives us a book called "Off the Cuff" which represents his personal ramblings and anecdotes. To me this is more representative of a chat (down the pub) with the guy rather than polished prose through an overexhuberant ghost editor.

So put aside the moans and consider which approach is more representative of Lee's story.

It's not well written and poorly edited, as many have pointed out, with the many repetitions. However, given that neither subject nor writer have literary reputations they can be forgiven. I've read a lot worse, and I've got a degree in English literature! As an example , The Da Vinci Code has to be the worst 'thriller' written in the last 50 years, but they made ( an even worse ) film based on it!
