| Quote mark_m="mark_m"Seems Chases contract was heavily laden with bonuses relating to winning trophies and getting MoM awards to avoid the salary cap.
As it was for various other recent departures.
All allegedly of course.'"
Surely bonuses count on the salary cap otherwise teams that actually win trophies could have used that one?
And if you were going to sign for Salford and they said low basic but look at what you get if we win trophies wouldn't you be a bit sceptical about the offer...?

| So we've made an official inquiry?? TS is thinking of playing Chase and Sandow together in halves with Gidley at full back ,could it work ? It would surely be entertaining

| We have not made enquiries into Chase.
Don't you think if we had, it would have be all over the Docs twitter account saying so? And some choice words telling us what we can do!?

You would think so but not. 'Prize money' and MoM payments are excluded. Check it under the RFL rules.
It is rather open to manipulation.

I read a very interesting post on the RL Fans Salford site yesterday.
It quoted the clauses in the Super League rules, that allow for Man of the Match & Prize Money that are excluded from Salary Cap.
The article then advised that Koucash had promised certain Salford players payments via this route......Man of the Match winners are nominated usually by the match sponsor of the day, & hence can be very easily manipulated.
I was going to copy & paste the Salford site posting on this thread.
HOWEVER, IT HAS BEEN DELETED!!!!!
Very Interesting.

It was my post and it is still there. Page 4 (I think) of the 'Propeganda' thread.

| I heard the very same thing from elsewhere. The adherence to the salary cap has been a mystery down at Salford for sure when they are openly stating they are running at a £50k loss per game.

| I really don't know how Salford do it. I thought you could only spend up to half of your clubs revenue. So to spend the full cap you would need revenue of about 3.6million. I remember Cullen said we needed an average attendance of about 10k to get us the full cap.
Salford have what 3,500 average fans at 20 quid a ticket, would make less than a million. Yes I know there is corporate which pay more but still even with tv money and sponsorship, they would need around 2.6m in revenue from these. The 3500 fans is probably boosted by a shed load of free tickets they give away. Something doesn't add up to me!

Here is the full article, from the Salford site ( Thanks Nottingham Tiger, I thought I read it on the Rangi Chase thread. When I couldn`t find it there, I wrongly assumed it had been deleted) :-

I don't believe this for a moment - you can randomly nominate a player every week to get a payment that doesn't count on the cap? No way that can be true, otherwise clubs would just have a carousel of MOM awards across the squad to pay salaries in excess of the cap. Or pay someone nothing but award him MOM every week and he would be free on the cap!

This means that for example for 12 home games, one player per game could be paid £50, 000, as Man of the Match. The club would have given £600, 000 to the clubs elite players, that wasn`t subject to salary cap.
Hence the Man of the Match awards could be manipulated to ensure that the star players received these additional payments to the salary that they had negotiated.

| Call Salford all you like but Wire are no better. I've heard some true stories from players in the game about Wire and you lot manipulate the salary cap.
If you manage to sign Chase, Sandow, Gidley and Lineham for next year while increasing the likes of Ben Curries contract then something is not right imo. Chase is currently one of the highest paid players in SL. Sandow is one of the highest paid half backs in the NRL, Gidley is a seasoned pro and every team in SL was fighting for Linehams contract.
Lucky for us other SL fans spending money does not guarantee you a SL title.
