You on a fishing trip there , only a big game for Wigan but massive for Wire , lets hope the players see it this way

| Quote Rogues Gallery="Rogues Gallery"It ALWAYS has mattered. It's still the biggest day in the RL calendar, and the one that brings the money in.
It's only Sky who have decided that the play off is the big one, basically because it's not their gig.'"
Not according to Gary Hetherington, and he should know. He's stated previously that the Grand Final brings more money in, through shirt & merchandise sales leading upto the event, and after due to the 'good feeling' created especially in the run up to Christmas. Plus, as the biggest & last game of the year season ticket sales are boosted.
Sounds to me like your trying to play it down because you're not very confident and you're trying to get a come back in to preempt a loss!

At the shareholders meeting a few years ago Ian Lenagan said that the Challenge Cup final generates more revenue than the Grand Final and that's what I was basing my information on as I was there. Where did you see the Heatherington quote?

| Are Liverpool still considered a big club in football?
we have won 3 cc in 4 years, the cup is a big deal in Rl, a lot bigger than in football. We aren't as big as say a Wigan but definitely one THE biggest.

I'll look back to try and find it. He's said it on a couple of occasions.
Don't forget, the winners of the GF also get to take part in the World Club Challenge - another money generator!

| Couldn't give a stiff one, really, about how long it's been since we last won the league. It's a statistic that means #### all to anybody but trivia people, and to media types who have to "churn up" such drivel, just to fill up their product. IT'S IRRELEVANT.
What matters is 17 Wire players (and coaching staff) ensuring they score more points than Wigan, not Eddie Hemmings doing his best John Motson/Allan Parry impression, telling all and sundry that we haven't won the league since around the time rationing stopped after WWII.
Lower league clubs such as Oldham, Swinton, Halifax, Featherstone, Dewsbury and Leigh have all won the league since we last won it. Are these clubs bigger than ours? I very much doubt it.
This match is about 2 clubs trying to win the league, not about a quiz question.

Maybe the League Cup yeah, but the FA Cup is still big time in football.

| Of course the match on Saturday is massive, whichever team wins it will go down in history as SL Champions 2013 whatever your views of the current format.
What makes this Saturday more massive, in terms of emotion, for me is that for many of the players it will mark the end of en era, win or lose. From a Wires perspective, Carvell, Brett & Moz (honourable mention to Coops as well) have spilt blood for the club; they have CC medals in the cupboard but if we miss out on Saturday I'll be as gutted, if not more, for them as much myself, the club and players and my fellow Wire fans that they never went down in history as members of a "champion" team. They deserve a fairytale ending and I hope they get it, and I'm nervous as hell for them and no other reason - I know Wigan are in a similar position, but frankly my dear I don't give a damn.
Saturday truly is the natural sunset for a wonderful era in the modern history of the club. Hopefully it will also represent the dawn of an equally joyous period.

| Only on RL Fans could you find supporters playing down the importance of their team winning the league. You couldn't make it up!
