The middle one!
Bargain buy from Wigan to replace Andy Gregory if I remember correctly. His form for Warrington was every bit as good as Andy Greg's until Holden's career was finished by a pot-hole at Station Road.

Spot on, PY
From memory, Mackey only came over because Andy Greg had stolen his spot at Illawarra, and he was looking for a club. Great player. Pity we didn't "sign" (up his contract) him when we should have (the next 3 or 4 years were almost in limbo, for us)
Have to agree with MKC, Shelford was a QUALITY player. Just wish we'd got him a couple of years earlier, and a stone or five lighter
Johnny Woods. Was expecting him to be almost finished. Far from it. A joy to watch a craftsman.
Joe Ropati (mentioned earlier) was another good signing, too. Had a bit of a lazy side to him (at times). There was that many Ropatis in the game, at that time, you never knew which one you had.
Richard Henare (for the time he was here). No-one had heard of him. When he played...wow.
A bloke I know, used to be his landlord on Gainsborough Rd, said he was a total nutcase, and needed sectioning.

The travesty of his career being tragically cut short is equalled only by Mark Roberts.

26672.jpg "The Warrington people hadn't had success for a few years, but there's no speccy in the world as good. They are very knowledgeable and appreciative of hard work. What they like is honesty. They want the team to try; if they fail they fail, but they expect honesty. They know when players don't put it in."

I think it was Fylde RU, but no doubt someone will tell me otherwise.

Not far off, Wrath. It was Fleetwood RL. Remember too that his two brothers were sportsmen as well. Ian played in goal for Blackpool, whilst Bob was a Number Eight for Bath RU and England.

Les was good but had a reputation.
Actually sometimes went missing if he didn't fancy it !!
Played a match against Bramley I think and we lost away. He was always standing 3-4 yards behind the line at most plays.....

One minute playing Sunday football for the Harrow Inn at Culcheth. Next being signed by Alex Murphy. The rest is history.

| Mike Nicholas. Was on his way back from a RU tournament in Scotland I think, called in at Wilderspool to watch his old Aberavon RU pals............. and ending up having a trial. Legend has it that Murphy was too terrified to tell him he couldnt have a contract - so he was signed.
