This really is the legacy of Smith . Going back to the days of the A teams, some of our players would not even get in them , but it isn't just a Russell thing , we have under performers across the board .

If he plays vs Widnes he is clearly undroppable.

Ruasell came as a FB but has never been the same since he took a clattering at Widnes.

Rather than shunt him out to Rochdale to get his confidence back we shoved him om the wing. This is the same philosophy that continues to find a place in the team for Atkins, Hughes, Westwood, Ratchford etc. even when the evidence is overwhelming that they are not performing and are handicappjng the team.

Still, TS is gone. So, if Price persists then we'll have to assume the coaches, both from the TS and post-TS era, see something we don't. Alternatively, maybe the alternatives look even worae in training, in which case we really are screwed.

Poor player. We have better that can play on the wing, simple as that.

Half decent at Fullback, before he got walloped in the Widnes game and hasnt been the same since. Only positive, half decent finisher, and great kick return (once he caught the ball) when he played full back.

Is he good enough for where we as a club aspire to be?? Absolutely not.

When Wigan get all their wingers back, they will still have 4 better than ours.....lets put a cheeky loan bid in.............

some of us had spotted his faults before the widnes dentist treatment, he was under a high ball before that, indecisive at best.

His faults were seen by Wigan, offloaded to Hull on loan, then he left on a 2 year deal to Gold Coast Titans where he placed precisely 0 games and came home a year early.
His SL career was 2 games for Wigan in 2011, 4 for Hull in 2012, 0 for Gold Coast in 2013 and then a remarkable 95 for us.

To be fair they have 4 exceptionally good wingers, lineham. Is pretty good though, gets too much flak in my opinion.

The sad truth is I bet Wigan have got about 7 wingers in their ranks that are currently better than Matty Russell. We should definitely asking the pies if they are looking to release any wingers I'd be very disappointed if we weren't in the running when one of their 4 best decides that he wants more game time.

Very quiet on the rumours front, which is unusual, for a player that needs to continue his career somewhere.

The comments about him are harsh, it’s like people are talking about a terrible player here.

He had his faults and didn’t really have a position he was a specialist at but I’ve not really seen a better runner of the ball off our own line... ever!

Yes he was excellent at the things he did well. When we were in form under Smith he was fantastic at breaking the line from dummy half. We forget that far too easily.

He wasn't an all-round winger though, which is what is required in our new era. I don't want him to leave thinking we didn't appreciate what he did for us during Smith's better times, so I wish him well wherever he ends up.

3. He was to go to Salford with Wire paying some of his salary but this appears to have fallen flat.

I wish him well but we can't give him away currently it seems.
