I'd love to debate Rugby league with you but you're basing your opinion on Matty Smith by watching a highlight reel.
I'm guessing your Knowledge of the game is next to 0 and when you watch the game you only notice fancy plays and tries rather than actually watching other factors of play and the work carried out off the ball, (much like St. Helens supporters). So for that reason I'm out.
Good day to you Sir.

Yes you're probably right, my knowledge of the game is zero. I have s season ticket for the game because my toilet is broke at home so I use the urinals at the ground as I can't get round to having it repaired.
One thing I did notice last night was... Brown wasn't playing. He was probably carrying out a lot of work I don't notice or appreciate. Maybe painting a skirting board at home or taking the rubbish out.
On that note I bid you an enjoyable day.

| Patton performed far better last night than Brown or Gidley have all season... get them two off the cap, and we could build a decent team.

| I don't do much in the way of comments on here as it is a wee bit too childish and this will probably be castigated as well, I have been to a few this year and at each one I thought that brown was just a plodder, and average at best, Patton has so much more flair and is far more of a Warrington half than Brown will ever be, get shot, I would much rather have GOB (yes I know he has gone) and Patton than Brown and Gids.

Kevin Brown is one of a seemingly long line of British half-backs who can be brilliant on his day. The problem is, he doesn't have many of those 'days'. Danny Brough, Matty Smith, Leon Pryce, Danny McGuire, Mike Smith, Richard Horne and Ryan Sheridan are other examples. I'm sure others on here can recall more such. Gareth O'Brien is a player I have long admired, but he is clearly more comfortable at fullback than he ever was at stand-off for Warrington, where he also had more poor games than good ones.

There's a big difference in calibre among those players, I wouldn't bundle them together by any means.
Brown, Brough - similar to Briers but not of the same quality and consistency, they best fit the "brilliant on his day" description.
McGuire, Pryce - consistent players who have been very successful in SL over a long period of time and integral in their teams winning trophies. They weren't classic halfbacks that work a team around the park but were very damaging runners.
Sheridan, Matty Smith - decent halfbacks who were not top drawer but enjoyed periods of prominence at a time when there was a lack of other talent around. In Sheridan's case, he was effective in the late 1990s but faded rapidly as the general standard in SL rose in the 2000s. Matty Smith went the other way, was seen as a bit part player moving around clubs until the declining quality of SL created a vacuum where players like him became more influential.
Richard Horne was a really good player, he was like Iestyn Harris in that he peaked relatively early. Back in around 2000 when he was only 17 or 18 he was already one of the top halfbacks in SL which was incredible. I wouldn't say he was inconsistent, but he went from being a player that threatened to be world class to a steady eddy that wasn't as much of a gamebreaker after he had had a few injuries and lost Cooke as a halfback partner. But he was still a very good player over a long time and better than players that are around today.
