Going OT here but read in the Guardian the other day that Poching had a heart attack in January? Hadn't seen this anywhere before?

He's not, he's a really nice bloke. All his family are too, his daughter is a lovely girl. The reputation he got wasn't him, he snapped at a PR woman immediately after a highly charged game where the adrenaline was flowing. In the context it was in, it was a minor incident and one he appologised for afterwards. He's a fantastic character who truly cares for the sport and it's development in this country.
In a job without so much pressure he'd do a fantastic job. He's got a good eye for a player and a history of improving the young players who played under him.

Great to 'hear' from you in a positive posting.
I would give the bloke a chance after the year he's had and under Tony Smith it could really suit all concerned

| Let's do a Loyd Grossman impression from "Through the Keyhole" re Millward's career since 2004
"Let's look at the evidence........
A sacking for gross misconduct
Wigan's worst 2 results in living memory, both to nil
A sacking from Wigan after their worst start to a season
Only two wins as a Head Coach at North Queensland Cowboys
As an assistant at Canberra, they didn't make the play-offs
Dreadful at Cas. They sack him, and low and behold, they start winning
....so, who'd employ a man like this?....Simon Moran, it's over to you"
It's not exactly an impressive 9 year cV, is it?
Let's leave him to speak with Tanya Arnold and Robbie Paul

Well I haven't read Radlinski's book but I've read Scullys. Scully said it was an ongoing theme that Millward would tear strips out of younger players and try to humiliate them in front of the senior players. Every year they asked the players to write down what the coach could do differently next year and every year Scully picked up the way he treated younger players, but nothing was ever done. Scully was quite fair to Millward in his book, he did suggest Millward was chummy with the top players so I guess he was always mates with the likes of Scully and Cunningham - but he did also say that by the time Millward left the dressing room was split 50/50 between players that wanted him out and players that were happy for him to stay.
A few years earlier, before I'd read Scully's book, I remember talking to a Wigan player that played under him who reported similar things, pretty much exactly the issues Scully brought up. The other complaint he said was that the players thought he was two faced and he wasn't respected in the dressing room. I haven't read Radlinskis book but wouldn't be surprised if the same thing came out there as well.

| People can change can't they? Especially when they have had to face personal tragedy and I'm not talikng about wigan's worst defeats.
He's not head coach and are we even sure who's pick he is TS or Moran as admittedly that might make a difference

| After reading what Sally says it would make little sense to put such a character in control of youth development?

| well just picking saddened up on his point, what players at sintellins did he 'bring on' during his time there.
Wellens maybe, Roby hit the big time after he left and was under Anderson,
other than that, i'm struggling.

| Come on chaps
We used to have somebody on our coaching staff upto a few years ago, who was obnoxious, rubbed fans up the wrong way, was difficult with some areas of the media, and now, even worse, he coaches rah-rah
We don't want another (but I wont lose sleep if Basil Fawlty sods off to rah-rah though)

Hanley brought Wellens in to the team, he was already a Grand Final winner and had a full season as a first teamer under his belt before Millward took over.
Millward brought through Bennett, Stewart, Stankevich, Jonkers, West, Edmondson plus he picked up Gardner, Higham and Wilkin from the NFP.
Mike Bennett was a good solid player who held his own in a very good squad but apart from him the young players that really thrived under Millward were the guys he brought from the NFP who were already hardened first teamers that had had success at a lower level.
Has the Millward to Warrington link come from anywhere other than Nosey Parker? Nosey puts made up stories in his column to get interest, so unless this has been corroborated elsewhere its a non starter.

Was he vandalising it with the Hull fans, only for the Hull fans to blame their stadium sharing, football counterparts.

not that I saw. I spoke to a guy who was in his box after their try which I thought was forward at the time, and he mentioned that Millward had said that the RFL were looking at something similar to Hawk eye in tennis to assist the referees with forward passes. Just thinking outside the box on this, why don't they get the touch judges to have a look in future?
