| Quote: morrisseyisawire "In the spirit of sheer devilment, curiosity (and Sunday evening boredom), can I ask why?
Try scoring record? Riley has the better
Kick returns? I'd say Riley is safer and makes equal if not more yardage
Ball security? I'd say Riley is slightly more reliable under the high ball (though they are both suspect)
Pace? Riley
Bravery? Equal
Strength? Ormsby
Defence? Probably Ormsby
Other than the colour of his hair, dubious facial fluff and eternal damnation for perceived poor positional sense I struggle a little to see why people thing Ormsby looks a better prospect than Riles.
Personally, I'd like Penny to get a run and judge all three equally, but I'm not convinced any are good enough long term.'"
I too would like to see Kev get a few games in the 1st team. I heard that he played for Swinton this weekend, so perhaps Kev will get a run out at Catalans this Friday.
We have been able to watch Chris for 5 seasons at the Wire but only had Gene since early spring to judge him by. Before the game I said to my mate 'just watch Riley get a try today'. Didn't think he would get 3.
I agree with your head to head assessment, but again would say that Gene has not had the game time to what Chris has. I would put Gene better at Kick returns.

Agreed, young lad with a lot to learn but he is not superman and tried his best to get to passes that were impossible to get to!
Thought Westwood had a shocker of a game (not for the first time this season) and his 'offloading' was cack!

| Penny is not good enough for Super League, we've seen that time and again.
Ormsby, the jury is out but I agree with morleys_deckchair, he looks like a player just plugging a gap, I bet his next move is to a club like Bradford or London, rather than to Leeds or Saints.
Riley....look at the tries on his career scoresheet, and the Challenge Cup winners medals on his mantlepiece. There's the difference between Penny, Ormsby and Riley.
Which one should be at Warrington....?

| To be honest. I thought the whole team was guilty of "overplaying"

| Two matches on the run where the whole team have been pants with glimpes of brilliance. The stats show that the second best winger at Warrington is Riley. Since his loan spell began have we seen anything to suggest that we have someone better?

| Welcome to the "Scapegoat Club" Geno, where you will join such luminaries as Chris Riley, Kevin Penny, Ritchie Mathers, Richie Myler, Gareth O'Brien, Jon Clarke and Mike Wainwright.

Funnily enough I saw Wedge with his kids yesterday in the East Stand. I should have punched him there and then for the Widnes & Wakefield performances. Even in retirement he's making us lose matches.

| Looking on the charitable side, as I said before I think the coach sees this season as one to rebuild and blood home grown talent.
To this end I think he wanted to give Ormsby an extended run in the first team and the only way to do this was to loan out Riley.
However I think it is unfortunate that Riley always appears to be the scapegoat and it must be unsettling for him.
The Wakefield coach has apparently said that he would like Riley on a permanent basis but, on the evidence I have seen, I think I would keep Riley and let them have Ormsby.

| If we got Riley back I can guarantee that we would have a thread in no time calling for him to be dropped and calls for Ormsby to be brought back!!

There were some folks stood near me who were cheering loudly for chris when he came out to warm up, then when he scored his first try. When the second and third went over they were less polite, infact i'd say they were as abusive to him as they were when he was wearing a Wire shirt.
Hypocritical s.
my own view, I've never been bowled over with Gene, he's not exceptionally fast, or exceptionally powerful, a friend who watches the academy says he's never really stood out as being one to watch, hard worker, but not someone that catches the eye. As many people have said, he does appear to be someone being given a chance, personally i think he's been given a chance over riley purely on a physical basis.
Tony's not tinkered with the side hugely however I think Riles' stature has been against him and the poor form(from the team) at the start of the year was a perfect excuse to drop him and get Ormsby in who's a fair bit bigger in appearance, and subsequently with Evans.
Myself, i'll admit i'm a Riley fan, however I like what he used to bring to the team, he was a good finisher, when Atkins was actually passing the ball to him, pretty good kick returner and he was very very good at mopping up the many loose balls/bad passes that happened as we were sweeping from left to right. I'd say we'd have had many more turnovers if he wasn't in position or have the anticipation to stop a pass going behind atkins and into touch.

| I don't think we will see Riley in a Wire shirt again. As for Ormsby, I thought he started well and was initially showing improvement, but after 18 or so games he doesn't really seemed to have kicked on. For me, his edge over Riley is the fact that he is still very young and raw and should be capable of upping his game. But at the moment that doesn't seem to be happening.

I think his height also plays a part in his selection. TS seems to love tall wide players who can jump and contest the high kicks in the corners.

1883.jpg Didn't William Webb Ellis pick up the ball and run, someone should really tell Rugby Union.

| Ormsby or Riley is moot. Just keeping a spot until Jack Johnson is ready.
Let us not get too carried away regarding Riley. Up until yesterday, his try return was two from seventeen games.

| To be honest, there isn't much to choose between Riley & Ormsby. They both have weaknesses and strengths but when you look at the quality of some of our peers, neither have the wow factor.
Ormsby has youth on his side, but if he isn't fast enough now he won't be in two years and we'll have another winger whose is lethal from two yards and whose main threat is from contesting the high kick to the corner. Effective? Yes. Entertaining? Hardly.
Evans is our most exciting back by a mile, and he certainly has plenty of improvement still in him, but as a centre; what I'd give for a blur of a winger outside him, and to hell with his defence.
