I suspect that about two years from now, there will be a 'whatever happened to that lad we signed from RU Sevens?' thread on here.'"

by the looks of this, he is a winger, the caveat to that being, I haven't a clue what's going on, on the pitch.

| Wow, couldn't which one he was or what the highlights were ha ha ha
If it's the guy who scored with the headguard on, it looks like, Dufty, Ashton, Thewlis and Williams would out pace him.
Ahh well will see how he goes, he's got 2 years to develop and might work out, if not he won't be on much wage wise and MIGHT not count on the cap with his Union background.
But all the best to him and welcome to the wire

| If he was the bloke who scored all the tries ,he certainly knows his way to the try line & how to get there ,either round or through his opponents.

Yeah and against the cook islands on 3rd Nov
Watched the Highlights today against Aus, only bits i saw of russell was one really poor tackle where he completely failed to tackle a player who ran directly at him and another player stood shoulder to shoulder with him, and the Aus player just ran completely through them and scored.
And another failed tackle 2 on 1 which led to a try.
Didn't look good but i didn't get to see any of his attacking plays or any of the other defensive work he did, so doesn't tell the whole picture.
But the first failed tackle was shocking.

| So we've lost Nicholson and Bateman from our back row options and it looks (barring further recruitment) like our first choice options are a very good player with a persistent shoulder issue and a guy with little to no pedigree at the top level in Australia. Assuming Currie keeps the 13 spot (as I think he should) then our back up options are Crowther and Holroyd who I fear may always be too small. I also think we're short of a prop who can give us some real impact from the bench.
I think our backs are fine with some real x factor players, especially if Lindop takes the right centre position in 2025, but we also look short of experience at half back - we may see Ratchford filling in there at times.
For me we need another big experienced second rower and a monster prop to be able to keep our position in the top 4.

Anyway i have come to the conclusion, you can have 13 world class players on the field but if the ref gives a dodgy decision its game over. Still annoyed with the semi!

Got to let it go. If we could have kicked a goal, or concentrated and stopped a barge over from the play the ball. It was in our hands and we blew it, admittedly with no help from the ref.

Exact mentality that sums up Warrington and why they still haven't won a grand final or even got there since 2018.

| Is anyone else a bit underwhelmed by our recruitment so far? The 3 signed already are just squad fillers / projects ( no disrespect)
I know we have a lot of good youth coming through such as Hayes, Lindop, Holroyd, Wood, Taylor Wray etc but i still believe we need to strengthen on top. Unless the plan is to just have another experimental / building year whereby we see if these youngsters are good enough. As i expect them to feature more. To me i like the ‘next man up’ mentality and am happy with another year of building but i also don’t want to get left behind because we are sat on lots of free cap space. St Helens found this out the hard way recently by not recruiting and pinning success on the youngsters. Albeit there youngsters haven’t cut the mustard so far where as our look more promising.

| Supposedly our only signing for next year was going to be yates prior to the nicholson news.
We've already had him, and arguably he isn't enough.

| If we were trying to sign Cleary that would indicate we have quite a bit of cap space spare.

Not necessarily loads as only 150k would count on the cap, so not neccessarily shed loads of cap space. Maybe Cleary and 2 more signings really. But with who we have signed i think we still have cap space for another 1 at best.
But yeah i'm a bit underwhelmed, BUT we have the nucleus of the squad set and good enough to get to the playoffs. I think Leyland is a genuine step up from Drinkwater, and Hayes has room to get better also.
Russell i hope just had a dodgy game for PNG, and a full pre-season and some game time will kick him in to gear, as he's a big dude so could add some strike for us.
I would have liked a new big boy prop, but it looks like Bullock will have to find his early 2023 form and fill that spot.
Our new painter and decorator is only a development signing anyway so i'm not concerned with his signing for the first team, He might get a game or 2 on the wing or not.
We might be banking any cap space we have left incase a player becomes available during the season?

Only £150k is that a marquee signing? You make fair points but I must admit when I read "we have the nucleus of the squad set and good enough to get to the playoffs" I was underwhelmed. Our target is to win the title surely?
