| The word puff is so offensive.
I went into Waitrose today and called the police as they were selling Puff Pastry. We should all protest and stop this evil from spreading further.
Oh my god Tesco are also selling PUFF pastry, where will it all end...........................

| Quote: Chris McKean "I'm not arguing about the homophobic comments being wrong. What I don't get, is how nobody batters an eyelid about somebody calling someone else for being fat, small, ginger etc.. I bet Rob Burrow has been called called a little s**t, chris riley called a ginger p***k and craig huby called a fat b*****d at some point and nothing has been said.
They're all forms of discrimination and I'm sure there's a 'phobia word associated with each of these. How are these anymore acceptable than making fun of someone's sexuality?
I'm pretty small and have took a proper ribbing for it throughout my life. It doesn't bother me at all but I could see how it could get to someone who is a bit less thick skinned and they would take offence to comments about their size.
Cheers
Chris'"
Those kind of insults aren't pleasant and if people older than school age are saying them it's pretty pathetic really.
But it's not got the same undertones of hate that underpin hate crimes.
If you are small or ginger you don't get people campaigning against you, saying you are disgusting and your practices are sinful, and you shouldn't be given the right to get married because its not right that small people or people with ginger hair get married.
The reason certain groups get treated differently in terms of abuse, is because there is a history of being discriminated against and hated purely for being part of that group.

He's from Yorkshire, got tattoos covering both arms, plays Rugby League, and his parents called him Zak - Let's face it, if you wanted to profile your perfect Jeremy Kyle 'guest', then this bloke covers all bases.
His only defence is his own stupidity - He probably knows he said it, but doesn't believe there is any offence in what he said.... Basically, an intolerance stemming from a poor upbringing - Like a lot of older people still call Pakistanis by the shorter, more offensive, term without actually realising its not acceptable any more, Hardaker probably believes that abusing people by the term 'poof' is, similarly, a trifling matter.

| I feel really sorry for Brian McDermott who is a decent, upright fella, who has tried to tow the line and stick by his player but who inwardly is probably thinking "this fella is a toerag, I don't want to share an island with him let alone a RL club".
Things are sometimes said in the workplace that we know are wrong, sometimes they are out of context, sometimes they are intended as offensive and sometimes they are not. We all tread a tightrope with the language we use, but in Hardakers's case there is no spin on it that Leeds can conjur to make it anything less than it is - the foul outpoutings of an odious little repeat-offending snake. I apologise in advance if any reptillian form users find that offensive.

| I get your point Sally. Unlike YED (Who just tried to make me look stupid) you knew I was not trying to compare the hardships gays and black people have had to face, historically, to that of short people in the modern era. I would never compare the amount of abuse and hatred those 2 people's have had to endure over many, many years to that of the aforementioned minorities.
I was referring to present day England playing rugby league, where there is not that much racism or homophobia that I know of. I'm also not comparing this to some current countries where, in today's modern society, they still persecute these 2 groups of people.
I was trying to point out that in our country today, where this type of behaviour is on the decline, why it is seen as acceptable to poke fun at certain people just because, historically, they have had an easy ride.

You down played one and over played the other.
Listen I'm currently a little overweight, and yes I do get ribbed a touch at work, more so because this time last year I was the opposite.
I take it, it's of my own doing at the end of the day, and it's not exactly discrimination as these are friends with banter.
I got involved with a gay charity through a friend who asked for a favour many moons ago because I had a pcv licence, i have a lot of gay friends, they face discrimination constantly, in work, on the street sometimes even with family members, some feel completely isolated in life, comparing them to gingers and fat people i personally find insulting, i'd hate to live a life how they live theirs. Don't pretend that gay people don't experience anything like they do in Russia, you'd be surprised, it's just not as widespread but it still happens here.
I apologise for my original tone.

That's why I would rather we had limited punishments for this type of thing, it should be about education and bringing people on not by treating them as a pariah. When someone has done/said something racist or homophobic then there should be a route back for them, rather than them then being branded as a racist or homophobe forever onwards from that point.
I thought with Suarez, he shouldn't have been banned for the length of time he was. Slap a fine, give a short ban if you have to and get the player to apologise and then leave it for him to learn from his lesson rather than trying to turn him in to a pariah for everyone else to condemn because if you do that then it just hardens people in their views: "yes I'm a racist/homophobe, SO WHAT, you hate me, I hate your politically correct society".
The likes of UKIP feed off this type of mentality, people that feel that they have been pushed to the outer because of having some oldfashioned views, so they see UKIP as some kind of heros for daring to say things you're not supposed to say.
The thing with causing offence is most people have things they may find offensive. The Daily Mail crowd complain all the time about how you aren't allowed to say anything these days without it causing 'offence' to some politically correct namby pamby but they can't contain their frothing at the mouth when some Muslim teenager posts something on facebook saying British soldiers deserve to die for killing innocents in the Middle East....

| Homophobia is looked upon very differently now than it ever has been before. It falls in line with racism at schools, it's taken [ithat[/i seriously!
It's not like the 1990s and earlier anymore when calling someone a "ing puff" is a bit of a laugh to imply he's not hard. It is seen as just as offensive as calling someone a "dirty Paki". It really is looked upon that seriously.
