This is an example of where you shouldn't buy into stereotypes. I always presumed Leeds was a grim city with not a lot going on, having only ever been to Headingley. When a mate started uni I went to visit and was blown away, it is a brilliant city which I love going to and I would happily pack up and move there tomorrow.

I thought the same about Huddersfield, but it isn't that bad and it's a cracking night out.

| Quote: Wires71 "I am cringing at a few of the comments on here.
Hull was a vitally important port in times gone by and has some superb architecture (see Wilberforce House) which survived the bombing of WWII.
It is Kingston Upon Hull as it was purchased by King Edward I in the late 1200s. Was a supporter of Republicanism in the Civil War. Birthplace of William Wilberforce who lead the anti-slavery movement and Phil Larkin worked as librarian at the Uni. Its has a historic old town, Museum quarter, marina and new theatre.
I appreciate some areas of Hull are not too nice on the eye currently. I can easily say the same about Warrington. However that should not make us forget the past.'"
Thank goodness for someone with a degree of intellect, please can you pass some on to people like Irish wire who think because they went to Hull Uni makes them an automatic authority on the City and its very rich heritage and History.
I would say to him, travel around the world for 30 years of your life like I have and see what's out there, go to various cities and learn a little about their history before making silly uneducated statements about them.

People from a town whose only advantage is good transport links make it easy to leave shouldn't really be slagging off anywhere at all really.'"
nope and neither should people from the posh end of Wythenshawe.........
I've been to Hull three times, I dont like it.......I'm not a fan............ I'm never going to move there.
Do I think Warrington is paradise? No. Would I rather live anywhere else...? Well, Id love to live in Abersoch but there are no jobs, nothing to do when it Rains, and its full of Welsh people, and people from Stockton Heath who think they are in Beverly Hills....... then I'd also Like to Live on Arran but there are no Jobs, and nothing much to do once you've walked round the place a few times.
So unless I win the lottery, I'm going to stay in Warrington, a Town I really like.....and laugh at pompous people that think its a hole........
I think many people in Hull will have similar views about their hole too.... and good on em.
Up the holes

| Stop knocking Hull, it's a working class city that helped make our country great. If every town was like Wilmslow, our country would be skint. When I have been there, I found the centre to be vibrant and full of things to do, friendly people too.
Our town has it's dumps, and I try to avoid going into town during the week these days or areas like Orford Lane as I get so depressed seeing how they are going down the pan, and that's from someone brought up in Cobden Street.
Congratulations Hull.

Don't tar us all with the same brush, my facebook/twitter has been filled with people I know from Hull Uni absolutely made up with the news, like myself.
Before I went and during my time there I was keen to take in as much history and culture as possible, I would hate to have been one of those arrogant, middle class (usually southern) students you get at every university looking down their nose and going on about how wonderful home is.

| Hull is still the only place I have ever been attacked without warning outside a rugby ground and giving the place a 'City of Culture' award won't remove the low-life scum element that seems prevalent.

Oh jesus, cry me a river. I have been to plenty of places around the world and most cities and towns have parts that are holes which I stated earlier. I also said this will be good for Hull and hopefully make it a nicer place. But dont let that cloud your judgement.
