| leave the guy alone. it's a team effort not just individual players. they should be backing each other up...
however very pleased with last nights game. they played their all and Tbf the score line does not reflect the effort the lads put in. it was always going to be a tough one but they played for the full 80. i also thought all the young ones had a very good game as well.
bring on the quins! lets sing our hearts out for the lads !!!

| He carried strongly last night.
It was a night when really, communication between him & Briers broke down. I guess the lack of preperation shining through, that's all.
Having only one halfback last night, he had to chime into the line and link with Briers, it just didn't look polished at all, but there's no big dramas with it, he adds alot to what we do, he's well in credit during his time here.
I look forward to next season immensely, all the talk has for the last couple of years has been about our pivots, I think we're strong in these areas now.
Fullback - Mathers.
Halves - Myler & Briers (Grix third choice), then your into Clarke, Bridge, Monas, probably that order.
Hooker - Monas (Then Higham, Clarke.)
LF - Probably Harrison or Grix, with Vinnie & Clarke as options.
I genuinely like what we have, alot.

| Wigan supporters are totally obsessed with Mathers (Challenge Cup 2009 winner and try scorer). Every game they create a new topic in desperation to assure themselves they did well out of the Gleeson exchange.

So you belive that the purchase of one player can improve our league position?
Deary me today.
Mathers is a specialist full back. He carries the ball well, he can be used as another halfback running into the defensive line and giving us more attacking options.
But hey, if you want to blame him for us not making the playoffs, then that's your choice.
Personally, I feel that you're talking crap.

I'not said that i blame him for not getting to the play-offs,just cant understand the glorification of him on here and as for is attributes, does'nt that apply for any other fullback in superleague?only some do it a lot better and know when and when not to do it.

Glorification?
Good grief, I've not seen any glorification on here. Christ, it's not as if people are touting him for Man Of Steel now, is it??
I've been impressed with the turnaround since he's joined us. When he was at Wigan, he wasn't very good. Too many errors, he was a constant head hunter. Tomy Smith has given him confidence. Fair enough, he's still prone to the odd error here and there, but no-one is perfect.
I think people on here have seen that turnaround in form and are commenting on it. There is no "glorification" going on.

Possibly yes, but when was the last time that we had a specialist full back?
Quote: Live Wired "only some do it a lot better and know when and when not to do it.'"
Well, obviously. Mathers is not the best full back in the league, that would be crazy to say so there is going to be others who are better than him at certain things.

| Quote: Rob Wire "With Richie Mathers what you see is what you get, he has enthusiasm by the bucket load, he does some very good last ditch tackles where he holds players up over the line on a regular basis and he marshalls the defence well.
His achillies heel is the blonde moments he has, they have been with him throughout his career , he is a massive improvement on Stuart Reardon but you will always feel that a blunder is not far away, thats the package you get with him.'"
Spot on imo.
I like the guy because of the sheer passion he seems to have for playing the game and for the clubs he plays at. He trys his guts out but you always have your heat in your mouth with him tbh.
I was embarrassed to hear some of the taunts thrown his way at the semi final by a section of Wigan fans because the lad never gave anything less then 100%. He's committed as they come but unfortunatly theres always an error waiting around the corner.
Overall though he's a very good influence on any side and his mistakes possibly get outweighed by that fact when he's playing with confidence(something he didn't have at Wigan).

Black Backgrounds/Animal.gif To some greatness comes naturally
In Smith we trust:Black Backgrounds/Animal.gif |
|
| I like Mathers and think he has played a part when we have defended well this season since his arrival. Let's not forget its not us the keyboard managers that select the team. Tony Smith knew Mathers and he knew what he was capable of good & bad before he brought him to the HJ. Mathers has shown both at home and away that he has the passion for playing for Warrington and it's great to see from the stands. You could see how much the win against Wigan meant to him at the HJ.
I feel that with a good pre- season and the injury crisis being cleared up that we should hit the ground running next season.
