As much as preference for it to be Austin he does not have to go, he as every right to see out his current contract. Speculation as been Leeds for him but what’s the point when they clearly prefer postponing matches.

Quote: Lord Tony Smith "Gareth Widdop will NOT be leaving Warrington Wolves to make way for George Williams.'"

I'm getting a little worried now. D Clark has been off his game for a couple of weeks looking distracted, and at the same time we're being linked with finding ways to fit Williams in. I hope I'm just jumping to conclusions.

You ain't the chronicle, you're a taxi driver... Then when all the posts now are excepting Williams is going Wire with Widdop going imminently, I say I haven’t heard that...it comes to light Widdop isn’t.
I keep getting lucky then.

I’m saving you the biggest piece of pie to eat, but you’d still moan. That is a guess btw.

Quote: Gaz3376 "Can only think its Inglis/Austin and Maybe 1 other making way for Williams then?'"

Inglis would need to be signed by somebody, he can't just retire for salary cap purposes. Austin would need to find another club transferring immediately which is highly unlikely. I'm not sure who the 'one other' would be. Which of our players would be snapped up half way through the season? Lineham maybe? Which clubs also have space on the cap?

I think it's more likely that Williams will sign for next season on a substantial 3-year deal, part of which is a clause to not play again this season for another club. He has two months salary from Canberra and Warrington can factor his loss of money this season into a higher salary over the next 3 years.

I thought a medical retirement can free up salary cap space?

In fact having thought about it a bit, if Widdop isn't going anywhere then the Clark thing becomes more of a reality... With Williams and Widdop in the marquee slots, Clark cannot now get an amazing marquee deal from us. So he has to choose between seeing out his contract on the money he's on now, or move to the NRL on big bucks as rumoured. That will be a huge loss if we can't keep him. One not really offset by Williams joining.

Only if the player hasn't taken part in the season yet. Which Inglis obviously has.

Oh christ, can you imagine the headlines if he retires on a medical loophole, after having fought off fans and media the last time he retired

icon_lol.gif ... I'm not moaning, I just enjoy watching you portraying yourself as the all knowing one on here, when, in reality, you're a fella in a taxi who likes to chew the fat & guess at the comings and goings of RL personnel.

I can't see that happening given there's supposedly a World Cup on this year. Surely Warrington would prefer him to play for someone else this year, even if it were a Championship team?

Williams will be signing for this season and Clark won't be going anywhere this season. How we fit them in I have no idea but a team of Widdop, Williams and Clark doesn't half wet the appetite.

If Williams wants to play in the World Cup, and he does, then he will have to find a club to play for between now and October.

I’ll trust your judgement and let my paranoia take a back seat. My psychotherapist doesn’t understand what it’s like to be a Warrington fan.

I'm sure when we do sign Williams all other fans will applaud us for our fastidious adherence to the salary cap.

Warrington allowing GW to play in the Championship, seriously?
