Steve Roach ahead of Boyd, Morley, Nutley or several other Wire props of the last 30 years???...
Roach for Wire was absolutely awful - Classic example of an Aussie here simply for the holiday and the cash.....If people thought that first-season Monas and Matt King were bad, then they didn't see Roach.
Thank the lord we didn't have this forum in those days, because Roach would have been a never ending target (deservedly) of people's criticism.

| Andy Greg, playing behind that Premiership winning side, was a joy to behold.
Mark Roberts was a fantastic second row, and many of his tries, line breaks etc, came from an excellently timed Andy Greg pass.
It's just a pity that Uncle Maurice waved a very lucrative contract under Greg's nose, and he went on strike, until he signed for the Pies. The sky was the limit at that time for the Wire...damn you Gregory

I don't think Roach was THAT bad, Dita's.....just plain BONE IDLE
He soon changed his tune (for a few weeks, until he buggered off back for the Aussie season), when Boydie came back for his last hurrah, and their careers over-lapped for about a month. That was the time we saw the REAL Roach .

I'd agree.....That's why Roach annoyed me so much - He was a great player, but just couldn't be d putting a shift in for Wire, instead, he chose to steal a wage.
We've had worse players than Roach, but none of them had the talent of him.....Roach was just a huge disappointment at the time.

| Yeah, Dita's. That's what pee'd me off with Roach, too.
We all knew what we were going to get, it's just a pity that he couldn't be ar5ed to put anything like the commitment of a Test quality player.
We've not had THAT many on a holiday, since the embargo was lifted in '83, just a pity that Roach's contract wouldn't have been 10 bob a week. Money wasted for most of the time

For anyone who saw him in his prime, Gordon was the best. Just ask Bob Fulton (who should also be considered) what he thought of Parry.

| Quote: Dita's Slot Meter "I'd go with Gregory simply because he was the best British scrum half I've seen in my time watching the game, playing in the best Warrington side I've ever seen.
Langer, though good for Wire, was at the end of his career, playing in a mediocre side.'"
Langer every day and then some...
Andy Gregory would never have turned up for a second training session with that wires side that Langer had to play in....so lets get things in order first.
Langer also went on to play for a mediocre Queensland side and ended up shining in that too. In Fact he turned them around and won the series
Langer was the finest I've ever seen and I saw all bar Murphy, and only saw Parry in has last 3 years.
I haven't named my team because its actually quite difficult but three names are always in BOYD, BLAKE, and LANGER. I'd pay to watch them flip burgers.
But still with all due respect to those fellows and the team of '86...Tomorrows team is the best side I have ever seen........2 challenge cups and a league leaders shield for Christs sake.
