It's playing tricks, he came from Halifax, then he joined Leeds after he left us.

Sorry, both incorrect. As mentioned previously in the thread, Mercer came to us from Bradford, then left us for Leeds, then joined Halifax and eventually back to use for less than a season.

Mercer didn't join us directly from Bradford originally. He had played at Odsal in the 88/89 season.
The following season, Mercer was part of the NZ squad which toured England in the autumn of 89 (the days when sides actually did proper tours). Once the tour ended, Wire snapped up Mercer and Duane Mann on long term deals to attempt to repair a faltering season, which was fading after the exit of Greg Mackey.
The league season never really recovered, but of course we ended up at Wembley to play the minor role in the Wigan Challenge Cup road show....

| Reversing the topic somewhat my favourite Warrington player to come to Hull FC was Roy Francis.
Roy has been in the news recently!

You'd have to stretch it via GB for a couple of years, but works for me!

I did think of him Walt' but whether would classify as a 'favourite signing' is another matter? Definitely thin on the ground Leeds to Warrington directly

Not sure if it’s an age or a lockdown issue but my memory is not what it was...how long is it since we won the league...?

| Fulham - Bob Jackson.
And if we paid a fee for him, that bloke repaid it many times over.

Yes.
He only went back to Australia in 1957 where he enjoyed great success as a player and coach.
Incidentally I agree wholeheartedly with comments about Bob Jackson One our best value for money signings ever.
