Agreed. 1985-95 with Wigan dominant Wire had one of the best records against them. That was through hard work stopping the Wigan 'machine' and, invariably, when that Pie team found itself 20 minutes into a game and not in front by a bagful, they had no 'plan b'. Same yesterday: Saints were not allowed to play and as early as the 15 minute mark had stopped the sweeping moves they've relied on successfully all year and were all, Makinson, Percival, Grace, even Roby, charging in as individuals trying the 'make something happen.'

Exactly, got in there faces ,put Saints off their game ,ripped up their game plan.

The truth is Saints didn't have a bad day at t'office ,we wouldn't let them play. Defence ,much improved handling ,passing ,discipline & attitude did the rest.

We deserved to win but Saints can feel aggrieved at the Morgan no try and later on the Grace knock on - which for me was a Wire knock on - that I think led to the 2nd try. Bad calls.

But making so few mistakes, tackling until they stood still and a fabulous kick chase - we were well worth the win.

It just shows that with the bright tactics we can win. Similar to the semi against Hull, but Saints were better at defending the high kick.

Price especially deserves some plaudits.
Hes rightly faced a barrage of criticism and I don't think for one minute some of our underlying issues are really solved, but he had the right tactics for the game yesterday with the players available.

Particularly Noble, who sounded like he was BEGGING them to score

What about the Lineham try? Even the Noble Davies Saints appreciation society conceeded that evened things up.

As for the Grace knock on, it happens and Saints have benefited from plenty in the past, not to.mention NFL quarterback style passing.

Paulo and Walmsley were both lucky not to be punished for foul play, much worse than Hughes got 10 mins for recently.

To be fair, the Lineham one in the real world is a try. There’s no obstruction. Currie should give it to Lineham from the break from our try line and it’s a clear run to the line and we should have took a drop goal before half time when Patton puts it dead. Each of those chances would have taken the game further away from saints. We both had chances, we both missed them.

Magnificent performance yesterday, especially when you factor in the searing heat. A testament to the teams fitness levels as well as their grit.

Loads of their fans on Twitter and Redvee seem convinced if they’d been awarded that first try then they’d have gone on to hammer us, that their confidence was then shot and ours just grew as a result of that gaffe.

They just [ican’t[/i be gracious in victory or defeat! And they wonder why I dislike them so much? Can’t admit they were totally outplayed and outthought. They still had 75 minutes to overcome that bad decision, and couldn’t. Everything they tried turned to crap because [iwe[/i shut them down.

A monumental effort from 1-17 but especially the forwards. All we had heard during the build was about the mighty Saints pack but they were totally outplayed by our boys. Fair enough about the unusual number of Saints errors but is that not in some way a result of the pressure of the occasion and the pressure we put them under. Untypically for us, certainly for this season, our discipline was outstanding. We played the occasion. Prior to the game, have to confess to not feeling too confident as most of us did but enjoyed a superb performance and can't praise the boys highly enough. Absolutely brilliant.

I was amazed at the performance when you consider the heat, opposition and recent form.
I didn't think we had that in us the way we have been playing.
Happy that the players and coaching staff proved me wrong.
Brilliant game plan perfectly executed. How we can go from a team that is a penalty / error machine to that is baffling but very enjoyable.

Took the Grandkids to that viewing area at Manchester Airport today. I could hear this whining noise but couldn't see any plane. Then I realised it was a car load of Saints fans.

Seriously, if you want a laugh, go onto redvee. They won't let the Knowles no try go, they want Holbrook to go immediately and they are in meltdown.

At least we know who to support in the event of a wigan/saints final. Long may their misery continue.
