| Quote: Saddened! "Very poor game I thought, after the two excellent Sky games the previous nights. Leeds were just appalling, the amount of missed tackles, a lot of them basic one on ones was pathetic, their handling even worse. Hurrell looked every bit a player who hasn't played for 2 years. Charnley's try was embarassing, Atkins lumbers to the ball and passes it right to his winger, no dummy, no disguise. Charnley is then able to stroll over untouched from 6 foot out? Clark's wasn't much different. Their discipline was shocking as well, they have a penalty away on most sets you had in the first half. They were as bad as I've ever seen a team in Super League. Up there with the Hull of the second half of last season. They absolutely stank.
As for you lot, you've got an impressive squad and I think you'll be the run away league leaders this year. I don't think you are technically better than Saints or Wigan even, still a lot of average players in your 17, but you play with more urgency and clearly want it more than the other sides in Super League. Your gameplan was quick play the balls, desperately quick to try and force penalties. Kendall made that easy tonight, but that could backfire with a more competent ref as several times your forwards didn't even move the ball from the floor, just left it on the floor and played it. Your offloads were the highlight of a solid first showing and again made very easy for you tonight by Leeds' lack of physicality. There were a few excellent offloads, but a lot, particularly from the backs were just throwing the ball out wildly and that can very easily become a bad idea if you turn the ball over, which is possible if the opposition has any level of desire and commitment, which Leeds didn't. Second half you got dragged down to their level and made loads of mistakes and the pack ran out of steam and everything slowed to a crawl and had the feeling of a pre season game.
Austin looked good, he looks a character as well, which is desperately needed in SL. Westwood still a grub, no doubt get cited for that if the RFL has any level of competence.'"
Steady on there, not like you to get carried away with a single result!!! You have put the title in our hands more than our own fans have.

| I'm really pleased with the result and really pleased with the attendance today. Great start, I'm sure there is much more to come from us (and leeds for that matter).

| Saddened-
A bit harsh on Leeds; for the first 10/15 mins it was probably even and if it wasn't for Hughes's sin-bin tackle, they would have gone in front. Although we contained him well, I thought Hurrell had a good game and would be a welcome addition to any side. I think Saddened, you have to bare in mind that Leeds, as a squad, have more new players/players returning from injury/players in new positions than anyone else- certainly more than us, saints, Wigan and most others. They've also got a new manager. With all those changes, they weren't bad at all; the second half was 6-6.
I think this is the makings of a top Leeds side given time, especially with a top manager in Furner.
As for the game, I'm a very happy as a Wire fan and it certainly wasn't boring to watch.

At the risk of incurring the wrath of the board, I thought his last play attacking high kicks were lacking in accuracy and potency, but it was a solid enough performance.

You don't win anything first week in February, we have a chance, other teams do too. You were wrong about King being dropped only yesterday! I fancy our chances and hope to enjoy the ride this season, I don't expect to win trophies but I expect to be in the hunt for at least 1 most seasons, this season I expect to be in the hunt for all 3 like last season even though we won none!

Agree with you Wire71, I get the feeling that's why Austin took over the kicking. I thought his passing was good and on the mark; in the overall Wire machine, his cog was turning fine and his well timed passes contributed to the win.

Won it pal. ...
And it's not about what we saw tonight that has made up my mind...but what we didn't. We could take 5 players or more out of that and replace them and it wouldn't make any significant difference.
That is why we'll win the lot.

I saw one lofty kick from Patton trying to get Lineham away that was better suited for a steward. ...please point out the other poor kicks. I don't recall them.

Saddened, last nights game was not quality. It was a close game between 2 p1ss poor teams. Tonight was a game between a team that will be at old Trafford and a team that has spent big on TWO marquee players,................who won't!!

I'm very encouged but Leeds will improve a lot. Saints looked good on Thursday, especially with Walmsley back. Never write off Wigan. In the past 2 seasons, Cas have been there or thereabouts. It's never over till the fat lady sings and we've been waiting a long time for that moment. Let's keep our hopes in check- we've played literally one game. But, let's keep the optimism.

there's no hopes from me. A spade is a spade. Last season I expected 2 finals and top 2 with top 4 minimum.
That's what we got!
This season I expect the lot...and we'll win the lot. The squad quality is just too deep to fail.
I saw Saints...they played well but the depth in forwards is still shallow. Warmsley is massive for them no question. They'll be near us but not better. I still say Wakefield will be the strongest chaser.

I know what you mean about Saints' forwards, as in the SRs and LF. Zeb Taia is ok/good and Knowles, like Lees is one for the future, although I like both their fire- a bit like Philbin's hit on Hurrell. (Philbin is looking the real deal season by season).
