I grew up in an era (early 80s) when we never played them on a "glamour day" i.e. Bank Holiday, and our attendance went up by a couple of hundred, when they visited. No where near the level of a vising Wigan, Widnes and even Leigh. To me, they're Salford, but with a Scouse postal address.
Yes, they're more successful than us, particularly in SL era, but so what. Leeds are, and we don't have a rivalry with them. Let 'em concentrate on Wigan.

So much for this so-called 'big rivalry' you claim to have with them, which is evidently the biggest 'one way rivalry' in Super League.

Widnes fans don't aspire to be like Wire though. We certainly don't want to go 63 years (and counting) without being Champions.

Talking of Leigh there's a good chance Widnes will be playing them next season and I don't mean in super league

Well I have Widnes above Leigh...but not by much...about 5 or 6 league places.
Mellor might be a good capture when his contract gets ripped up this year.

Good news for Wigan then, they're more likely to have a big Derby against leigh to look forward to next year than a guaranteed 4 points against widnes and a trip to the pitch that nobody likes and IMO isn't suitable for superleague.

Widnes went their first 103 years without being crowned Champions... ONE HUNDRED AND THREE YEARS!
I could get to my 70th birthday and not see Wire win the GF (I’m 36) and Wire would still be doing better than 103 years without being crowned Champions!
63 years isn’t even Wire’s worst run, 72 years is, but it’s a damn site smaller than 103 years. So I’ll be quite happy to better our worst run and wait for a GF in the next eight years.
But 103, Widnes, 1-0-3!

and all their relegations...
Anyway, Widnes should be very grateful for Warrington. If it weren’t for us there would be no Widnes RL. We donated all of our Christmas and Easter derby games’ gate receipts to keep them afloat in 1928. Without Wire they’d have gone bust! |
