| Quote: sally cinnamon "Not quite. My expectations for Warrington are that we should be a team challenging for trophies and so shouldn't just be taking a punt on ex players as coaches, just because they were good players.
I wonder if Saints will be looking at Michael Monaghan or Lee Briers for their head coaching vacancy, as have been suggested on this forum as replacements for Smith?'"
Yes you pooh poohed my suggestion of a punt on Michael Monaghan after our second Loss (and I've never once suggested Lee Briers BTW).
Quote: sally cinnamon " [2017 and Tony Smith thread] If we go from Tony Smith to a punt on the unknown there are high risks of us sliding down the table, losing players and then looking back and saying the Smith era was great, we lost 2 games and then got rid what a decision.'"
Well we never slid down the table as we couldnt slide any lower, but we got worse and stayed bottom and are only off the bottom by points difference, we drew to a team at home that Salford put fifty odd past away.
oh how you must have laughed at Salford when they got rid of Super Aussie coach Tim Sheens for an ex player with little coaching experience....????
get yourself onto redvee.net and have look at their poll ...the saints fans favourite for the job is David Fairleigh.....some ex player assistant i'm guessing...

| Fairleigh has had a long apprenticeship now doing 15 years on the coaching staff of various clubs in the NRL so he might be a good shout.

Quote: ComeOnYouWolves "So when you say "other clubs coaches silverware achievement the season prior as mitigating circumstances". We should ignore the fact that we got to the Grand Final and CC Final and won the League Leaders Shield, as they are not relevant and shouldnt give Tony Smith some slack?
The fact that we have been to 4 Challenge Cup Finals, Winning 3. Getting to 3 GF's (losing them all) Twice League Leaders Shield winners. We have recent history of getting to finals. Why would we not trust in keeping our coach who has provided us with the best memories i have ever had as a Wire fan. Yes we have had a bad start, we may or may not come good but i am still behind our Coach, Team and Club.'"
I am not doubting the success 2009-2012. The best rugby I have seen us play and winning Challenge Cups. The stuff of dreams. But then the demise started as Smith could not assemble a team as good as the one he inherited. The great players went and were not replaced.
I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion of how important the League Leaders Shield is. The club don't seem to think our 2016 achievement worthy enough to put on the official website. https://warringtonwolves.com/wolves-her ... b-honours/
Why not outline what you remember of our great successes in 2013/2014/2015?

A bit of a simplistic critique Geoff and not how I read the article, but, you know this

Yeah, I was only teasing...I do think the time was right for KFC to leave, though, despite what Smith says.

I agree that it was probably time for him to go, his apprenticeship wasn't long enough to take on the top job at Saints.
I know they are above us in the league and I've defended Smith when quite a few have called for his head on here maybe the solution for both was to see how the season panned out unless of course they have a top replacement lined up?

I did wonder why Smith felt the need to say anything, it is not our business and he doesn't have a wider remit to justify commenting.
Perhaps he was feeling a bit itchy that a coach, with a team ahead of us in the league, got the boot for poor performance.
