| Got to ask yourself where has that desire been + I still blame that annual holiday jaunt they have in the sun.Hopefully next year it will be in the Scottish Highlands in deepest winter.Might start the season off winning for a change + agree about Brown.Be criminal if Smith drops Patton when he's fit.

Looks like you're gonna have to start working a bit harder to find things to moan about Ron. Seems the best bit of the season is over for you, but hang in there, I'm sure we won't win every game between now and OT, so you'll get your chance to shine again.

Yes, cos as we demonstrated at the start of 2016 (7 in a row), 2015 (4 of the first 5), 2014 (4 of first 7), 2013 (unbeaten in first 4), 2012 (unbeaten in first 5) and 2011 (6 of the first 7) we're notoriously slow starters to the season. Pack 'em off to Siberia I say.

A big plus for tonight... Evans had his match shirt presented to him by Mark Foster as a milestone appearance.
Well.. He can get to wear it again next week as I'm pretty sure he only had 2 touches of the ball in 20 minutes. And that 2nd came in final few seconds.'" '"'"
Your sarcasm appears to know boundaries. If you had played left centre or left wing tonight you would not have touched the ball. Do you not see the ball is passed to the right nearly every time

| I thought Joe Philbin was excellent tonight, and I don't recall saying that many times before.
Hungry for work, ran very aggressively and neat and tidy in defence.
More please.

Agree.... It was the second best thing of the night after the two points for me. I thought he was tremendous and when he went off I thought we lacked a bit of go forward...... definitely an unexpected bonus that.....

| Philbin and G King were both very good off the bench, confounding the moaning at the top of the thread. Agree about Dwyer and Evans though: Dwyer didn't do enough minutes and Evans.. well, what is the point of a centre coming off the bench.
We just needed to win tonight, it didn't have to be fancy. And we did, despite a very scary patch just after the hour mark where Leeds clearly had us physically. Regardless of the upturn in form, the fact remains that we are too small and it was only because we did so well in securing repeat sets that Leeds didn't quite get the possession they needed to hurt us.
Still, a win is a win and I want to finish on a positive. Patton and Toby King were the fresh new faces that led us to the LLS at the end of last year, and they were the bright lights tonight. Atkins, Russell and Ratchford were great too (bar Stef's early brainfart), and it has been a while since we have been able to say many good things about our backs.
If we could pass or offload, we would be dangerous. On we go to Widnes.

Agreed too.
If there were to be negatives. Still having the habit of penalty, penalty, try. Also a little unstuck 10m away from the line and not getting the ball over. But plenty of repeat sets were gained from smart kicks.

Go on the Leeds board and they say exactly the same thing. They could not be expected to win as Wire's pack was so much bigger than theirs. They also reckon that Child's bias to Wire cost them the game.

| As for the Westwood incident, a late challenge that unfortunately just managed to to clean out Sutcliffe through an unlucky contact. At least it wasn't orchestrated thuggery on the scale of Ferres on Gildart.
As for good performances, Hill, Sims in defence ,Benny as ever, Russell would be far more effective as interchange scooter than Dwyer,Patton, Atkins, the King brothers & Lineham, all good value for money tonight.

Clearly you saw the Westwood incident differently to most that was a deliberate contact it's clearly visable !!

The irony is, i rarely comment after losses, because everyone jumps on the bandwagon then, as they do when we win... old trafford?
I commented after the Brisbane game saying I wasn't impressed, when everyone was talking like we would walk the league... and this performance certainly doesn't change my views on the coach, or several of our big earners.
Poor Leeds performance, coupled with us getting a few favourable calls meant a hard fought win.
We still lack creativity... Patton has the potential to be a great controlling half, but Gidley offers next to nothing in attack... his kicking game in general is poor, as is his decision making.
Until Gidley is replaced by a creative half (not brown) we are going to struggle, Sims couldn't break a paper bag, I hope he isn't on a big wage.
Evans not starting is certainly a step in the right direction.

| Really chuffed we got the first win and credit should be given to our attitude which got us through. Really agree with the comments on Philbin and George King as well. What happened to Cooper last night? Either way, I think it may be the kick up the backside he needs as he hasn't been overly impressive, especially considering the reputation he'd built in Oz.
Pattern was excellent and Hill is getting back into his stride to mention a few. But I think our next step is to develop a plan b and c. The quick ptbs and attack around the ruck worked well last night but I think we'll need more against Cas and a Wigan side with all their players back and Leeds on another day. We could do with some more moves to open space up and our passing needs to be worked on as it can be a bit static.
Anyhow, let's hope were heading in the right direction. COYW.

I said exactly the same, regarding the Broncos game. A great cameo from Philbin that night, too. It's just a pity that the lad either never follows it up in his next match, or gets dropped for a returning player. I'm convinced there's a rugby league player in there, somewhere.
Smith. Why pick Evans as an interchange, but not use him til the dying embers of the game. He's done this umpteen times with players, sometimes not using them at all, during his coaching career with us. Baffling.
Sims. You can't fault the fella for effort, but, come on. BREAK A BLOODY TACKLE, OR GAIN SOME BLOODY YARDS THROUGH LEG DRIVE. As soon as contact is made, he stops. Bar an offload, that's not good enough for a Test Match experienced prop. That petulant stamp was pathetic and the last thing we needed after Westwood's muppetry.
Gidley.I'm sorry, but I just don't get the hero worship for him, by some on here. We've basically paid a lot of money for a bloke with a big gob, who shouts to his teammates what they should be doing. For a seasoned NRL "legend", I want a lot more with ball in hand.
Some good performances last night. Keep it up, Wire. Just try and play some rugby for us, next week, eh.
P.S. Pray for Eddie Hemmings cat, today. As soon as Hemmings put his key in the lock last night, the poor little mite bolted for the airing cupboard, and hasn't come out since. Poor thing must be starving, now.
