| Anyone blaming Penny for the overlap tries for Manfreidi, go on the Sky Sports app for the highlights, skip to 0:53 where you'll see Joe Westerman at A defender, push up too hard, have to slow down and sink in and turns in his hips, that makes Clark defend the half back, instead of the 'lead' runner, who Atkins had to come in for, leaving Ratchford and Penny 3v2. From that point on its shelling peas, but at least we made them make the long ball, and score in the corner, not under the sticks.
Similar on 2:03. Ashton Sims comes in too fast, Currie chases and goes up to far, trying to tackle the half back, again Atkins has to come in for the lead, from there on it might as well be the same video clip.
Always looks to be the wingers fault, but it's just running out of numbers on the edge. But again, I'd rather that than drift out and let a lead runner through a gap under the posts.

| Young lad, comes in to the sport relatively late, breaks into his home town clubs first team, scores miracle trys effortlessly, makes the dream team, gets found out all too often defensively, moves away from his home town club, plays at a lower and lower level and has to get a 'real' job driving a van, invited back to train with his home town club, breaks back into the first team, that team are top of the league and he doesn't look the slightest out of place. All we need is for Kev to go on and score the Grand Final winning try and you have yourself a ready made Hollywood script.
I've used Kev as an example to my kids on more than one occasion that if you have a dream, if you really want something, you never ever give up on it. Despite us having Gidley, Sandow, Hill and Currie, Penny is easily my favourite Wire player.

| Spoke to a Wire fan of 50 years today (he's never happy)
First thing he said to me "that Penny's a bloody liability"
Just looked at him, and asked him if he's "'avin a larf".
Some people are just NEVER happy.
Put it this way
If he's playing crap, he'd get dropped.
He's not playing crap, or even average, so guess what.....HE PLAYS
GIVE THE LAD A BREAK

| I'm also a fan of 50+years and Kevin is one of the most exciting wingers I have seen (albeit i never saw Brian Bevan). I accept that he's a more rounded player these days but he was even more exciting in his first spell at the club before some of. his natural talent was coached out of him.

| Quote: Ron "I don't think he is good defensively but that isn't my major worry... its his lack of size. I was cringing slightly in the last 20 minutes when I knew we needed a good set of 6 and to get down wigans end and heis taking a hit up. He is just too lightweight in my opinion and gets absolutely dominated in the tackle. Regularly seems to get held up and dragged back 5 yards, completely putting us on the backfoot in the set of 6.
If you compare this to how good wingers get their teams set of 6 started e.g. Charnley, manfredi, Briscoes, Hall etc who have the strength to get on the front foot it is light and day and makes it so much easier for the forwards following.
He possibly has to be more brave in the tackle and not run so upright into contact, and look to hit the deck quickly by driving low. Not sure, he just seems to casually jog into the opposition defence anticipating getting held up.'"
Don't know which game you were watching last night fella but for mine Kev drove the ball in with commitment and bravery. I remember in first half he took it straight into the Wigan props and wasn't pushed back. Look at the end of the day this lad devides opinion but he is excellent value for money for the club and i feel a better association with the team when local lads are in it.

| Everybody wants Penny to succeed but it seems he has gone from being a scapegoat to being beyond criticism. There were some basic errors made on that edge and the player himself was aware of them looking at his reaction.
Not entirely sure why he warrants being singled out on a thread on here though.

| Let's get some perspective.
Kev has made mistakes and will make mistakes, but overall the balance is positive. What impresses me these days is his ability to drive the ball in against the big guys and make meters with his leg drive.
He's still fast and knows how to play as a winger.
He does miss some tackles but usually slows the guy up enough for support to come from the inside.
The high fives and all that are part of his make-up (not a great fan of all that as I'm an old g1t and think it's a bit OTT), but I think it's part of his general positivity that rubs off on others.
We need players like him.
Keep it up Kev.

If you read my original post I think it's clear.

| I recall the constant targeting of the Evans Lineham flank at Hull fc ...three tries conceded down that wing I think.
Hull had obviously made a conscious decision to target that wing
Did I miss the Tom lineham liability comments..?

Shame that some lovers that "support" the Wire are never happy, unless they're pulling a player to pieces

| Lets face it there are too many people who just don't like local guys doing well! This guy has gone through a run of emotions that most of us couldn't deal with, being a fresh face thrown into the big games scoring great tries, being dumped on by vastly experienced team mates to save their face, being ostracised by his own fans (not all), being exiled by the club, being brought back to the club and starting fresh, putting in solid performances to earn his spot plus the adulation of some of the fans. Most of that would have folks on some sort of anti depressant.
Not every player can be every ones favourite but Christ this lad is one of our own he's not on any holiday from Aus!!
I might be correct in thinking that if we had Eric Groth and Brian Bevan there would be scapegoatmanship from plenty of the loons on here!!!!

Good post that.
Kev is now a player first on my team sheet with Sandow and Hill on this seasons form and I'm very close to adding Atkins to that trio.
