| Excellent point Wires71, I have often bored my lads by saying that even in black and white photos you can virtually always name the team, so many clubs had iconic shirts that have been lost in the annual rush to sell replicas

That, young man (i'm guessing from your comments) is a training top that was done, based on the shirt we produced for the very special occasion of playing the touring australian midweek game in 94, which we were then not allowed to wear during the game. Previously were highly regarded and sought after.
So much so it was surprising that they didn't try and push this for the magic weekend, instead of the god awful one they did.

Leigh and Wigan would be tough to distinguish in B&W from back in the day I guess.

Ha ha not quite so young, but a bit before my time supporting the Wire. I only started watching mid 00's. I tend to go for the jackets or training gear over the kits but I haven't actually seen anyone wearing this at the ground or anywhere else for that matter, I'm guessing despite the idea behind it it never really took off?

My sister regularly wears her yellow replica shirt to matches. They were produced when we were due to play the Aussies and then the RFL wouldn't sanction it so it was never played in. My sister is quite proud of hers!

My memory is very hazy given how long ago it was and how old I wasn't, but I recall that shirt being connected to when Wire toured in Oz? Was it only as you say: a shirt for a game that never happened in England? I always liked that shirt.

| I've never seen that training top before, but I got flashbacks as soon as I clicked the link because I remember that shirt well. I haven't got it, but I have still got the P&B striped home shirt from that era, which is the one we ended up wearing on the night V Australia, and I was at that match.
The last great Kangaroo tour that one in 1994. The 1997 "Super League" tour didn't quite feel the same, and nothing has touched it since. I don't regret the switch to summer rugby because I absolutely believe it was a good move and I'd never advocate a return to winter, but the classic GB/Aus tours are an unfortunate loss.

Tricky in this one as it's Wigan in hooped socks and Leigh in white - the exact opposite. Then of course we have Halifax.
Leigh unless Drummond played for Wigan
Goons
Halifax

| Well played Wires71, it's a fair cop - but I did say "virtually" so I will from now on never mention this to my lads again - still reckon they were still better shirts than today's, especially the new Wire effort

I'm with you. I'm all for a shirt that remains instantly recognisable across the ages.
So far in my lifetime we have had
chevrons - Vladivar and current
horizonal stripes - many
vertical stripes - Greenhalls
horizonal band (Sparkomatic)
all plain - Bukta
Curvy chevron - dark days 2006?

| Very few teams played with a V.
Saints adopted it only in the 60s I think until then it was just a red band like KR.
I think the Cumbrian teams like Barrow and/or Workington had it first and eventually others followed.
Wasn't our first V shirt for the 1974 CC final?

| I like how we have an ever changing style to our kits. We've had famous hooped kitshttps://www.warringtonguardian.co.uk/resources/images/3551652/" >
I've just bought the Boca Juniors away kit because it looked like a Brian Bevan shirthttps://cdn.soccerbible.com/media/5908/nike_boca_juniors_home_away_14_15_004.jpg" >
we've not had one of these since 2006.
Although there's a good photo of Bevan in a hooped kit scoring against Windes at Wembleyhttps://www.wire2wolves.com/images/1950s/1950%20-%20BevanatWembley-.jpg" >
