| Quote: Asgardian13 "Whilst it seems unlikely, the astonishment of Wakey fans needs to be tempered. In Agar's time there he never had the chance to coach top-class players, so the team's performance is at least as much down to the playing staff as to the coach who was trying to make a silk purse etc etc. That doesn't automatically translate into Wire giving him a shot, though. If I were to look for a British coach, moreover, I'd take John Kear, assuming that Daryl Powell wants to make more of a mark at Cas before he moves on.'"
What a load of tosh. When he started we were top 8. He had player such as Amor, Aiton, Collis, Kirmond, Lautiti, Poore and an in form Tim Smith at his disposal just to name a few. Now you can fairly argue that team probably still wasn't good enough to win SL but one year later it finished 11th. Come on!
So cut the rubbish about top class players, quite the opposite if you'd bothered to look and not make assumptions.

| Well if true or not it's certainly not an appointment to sell season tickets and I cannot for the life of me believe that Moran is unable to find someone with a better track record than Agar's.Be a huge step down imo if true which I sincerely hope it isn't.

| Smith and Agar are very good friends with each other - which is how Riley ended up on loan there.

| I am astonished that this thread has reached a 4th page. If anyone believes this then they'll believe anything.

| Agar reveals his reasons for resigning at Wakefield and I am not afraid of that challenge at all. But the club need to decide what they want to be. Do they want to rebuild the team every year or two, or do they want some stability and to put more into it so they can compete?
It was not a decision based on results, it was based on the fact the club is about to come into the recruitment period, I felt I have done my time here and I wanted to start looking for a new job.
I am sorry we didn’t get a result [against Bradford on Sunday]. I would have loved to go out with a 10-point buffer, but it was not to be. It was a tough decision because I have loved my time here, I have really enjoyed it and I have worked with some good people and got brilliant staff.
But it was a personal decision. I want to compete and that is really hard here, but the club is getting better and it will be able to strengthen in the off-season. I am confident the club will stay up."'"
It's interesting that Agar wanted to leave rather than being pushed, and the reasons were that he wants to "compete". Not wants to spend more time with his family away from the game etc. So he presumably is confident that he has got an opportunity lined up
Smith at the time officially had nothing lined up but Leeds soon announced that Smith would join their coaching set up as head coach with Daryl Powell stepping aside but then later to take over at the conclusion of Smith's contract (didn't happen as Powell went off to RU in the meantime).
And then remember this situation at Harlequins in 2010

That's because there isn't one.I can't believe that, once again, some people have actually fallen for this.

| The 'wanting to compete' line seems to be a dig at Wakey, and implies they have no ambition or money. But surely he was 'competing' when he was at Hull ? Big club, decent budget presumably, but he didn't seem to make much of his opportunities over there.

| He might be going to Catalans. He is coach of the French national team after all.
I wouldn't dismiss this: he might not come here but I think there's more to the Agar story that will soon be revealed.
It's rare these days that a coach resigns or asks to be released when he has a couple of years on his contract, as he won't get a payoff, whereas when a coach digs their heels in and refuses to resign the club have to pay them off when they leave. The phrase "I've never walked away from a challenge in my life" from a sports coach faced with questions about their future generally means "....when I am entitled to a payoff if I stay till I'm sacked."
So if he has gone voluntarily and foregone a payoff he must have something lined up and the comment about wanting to be somewhere where he can compete suggests he has got an opportunity he perceives as better.
I think we will see Agar turning up elsewhere in SL, whether its at Warrington or not we will have to wait and see.

| I can only really see this rumour being true if agar is to act as an experienced assistant to a first time coach like Michael Monaghan or Adrian Morley!
IF of course sir tony is going to be on his way and I really hope he isn't. Easily the best coach we have had in my lifetime supporting the wire.

| This has just been discussed on Super League Backchat, they said how Agar has been linked and rumoured for a while to be joining Wire. It was said that he would be on the coaching staff alongside Smith maybe with a view to taking over when/if Smith departs.

| i find it amusing how you wire fans brand us(hull fc) a poor team when Agar took over us, cast your minds back we had won a challenge cup 2005 and got to the grand final(2006) then Agar took over and we went backwards, back to w@nky me thinks. good luck
