Have you asked Ormsby what his opinion on the subject is.
It was a remark what fell flat, but was carried by the leading commentators on a flag ship sky sports programme. Any professional would have swiftly moved on.

| No but I've just googled it. If Stevo is making a reference to a film from 1974 then it just shows how out of touch he is.

| That's the only Sean Connery reference I can think he's possibly likening him to

Yes, at the quiz last night. He's also retweeted a few pictures on twitter.

| Quote: Bobby Digital "Calling Ormsby a Sean Connery look a like was just plain insulting. Stevo lost the plot at that point, but Eddie keep the gag running. Instead of moving on quickly. The whole sky production needs moving forwards, the intro music really gets my goat. The whole package comes across as 6th form media studies persention very Amatuer.'"
They spend a lot of time talking about hair (both facial and head). I recall them scoffing when a lot of Leeds players dyed their hair pink. Eddie said something monumentally stupid which amounted to 'if they spent less time playing with their hair this week they wouldn't be losing'.
They also spend a fair amount of time remarking on tattoos, and pretty much anything else these kids today are doing...
Other than them sounding like insufferable old dinosaurs at times (which I mostly just find funny), I don't mind their commentary. They have been the voice of RL since I was a small child and couldn't formulate a critical opinion, so I think the nostalgia and 'first impressions' elements of that factor prevent me from urgently wanting change.

That's part of Sky Sport RL's success. They reckon only 50% of viewers are from the heartlands, most are casual viewers. I know from when I was at uni that if you sit someone down in front of a boring one sided game with soccer type commentary or a detailed serious debate on the offside law with someone like Stuart Barnes, most will turn off. If the voices on the TV sound like they are having a good time you will tend to believe them. They can be bickering about the advantage law and you might not understand what it is but it is presented in a way which is accessible to all.
I find it interesting that Andrew Voss spent more time than anyone going off topic and playing the 'idiot abroad' act during the RLWC, yet he gets spoken about on here like the Messiah. A couple of years on sky and he would be treated with the same disdain/jealousy that every caller of the game has faced.

| A more appropriate comparison for Ormsby with his Victorian style 'tache. would be a member of a Barber Shop Quartet...He wouldn't look out of place wearing one of those old fashioned swimming costumes which cover a man's chest for modesty purposes.

| A certain Brian Bevan didn't look much like a rugby player either. If Ormesby can do the biz he is ok by me ,but he looks big enough to finish up among the forwards eventually.

| Ormsby's Ok with it i'd say as i was one of the tweeters that sent him a pic which he retweeted with one of those "crying laughing" faces that i presume comes with an iphone or something. He also favourited it.
With regards to Eddie and Stevo, there's nothing wrong with them, sometimes a game can be dull as dishwater and they sometimes have to try and get SOMETHING interesting out of a game. Yeah they can prattle on but i bet every single one of us would have certain things we say ALL of the time without realising it. Theirs just gets picked up on due to length of service. Vossy was a great one off but can you imagine the moaning if we had a full season of his Michael Palin type escapades? Sure it was funny hearing him talking of his pork roll at the Rodney but 16 weeks into a season and that packet of pickled onion crisps in Halifax becomes wearing.
Similarly i see people moaning about Boots and All yet praising The Footy show. They're completely different animals, Boots and All is a RLs new magazine show, The Footy show while entertaining is more like Harry Enfield and Chums than anything. Again, people moan if B&A comes anywhere near doing a skit, but love TFS for it.

I know people watching premier sports rave about the coverage on there but if you take a minute to look at the Channel 9 coverage I guarantee folk over here would switch off in their droves if sky sports was similar. Ray Warren is the best caller of sport in the whole world ever, but when he advertises the next episode of the voice or the Block or whatever is channel 9's next big series slap bang in the middle of play it gets a bit much. Imagine Eddie advertising the next episode of Ross kemp on gangs while Chris hill is tearing through the Wigan defence?
And adverts wow thank goodness they don't get shown on Premier sports coverage. when there is any stoppage in play they do like to nip to a quick advert..... they've gone to them straight after a knock on while a scrum is being formed, and then "Rabbits" returns to the commentary with a welcome back to suncorp just as the ball is coming out of the back of the scrum....
And they've only just started getting the hang of instant Replays.... and the commentators talk through minutes silence as well which really gets on my nerves. So not perfect by any means....
