Great player in his day but Old Father Time had finally caught up with him...He's lost the pace he had which was exemplified at Salford when a break was made from a long way out and Hodgson gave chase but was pushed out of the way by Ben Currie who flew past him...He seems to be like an old time boxer who has been battered for 8 rounds and referee stops the fight. He pleads to be given one more round convinced that he will knock his opponent out in the next round...Brett's had a long and distinguished career but should now be honest with himself and retire gracefully. The smack in the chops vs Widnes didn't help.

Four pages in and no-one knows where or what he is doing next season. I loved him when he first joined and the way he just arrived on time to complement Briers or Myler in attack. He was some player with the boot too.

Quote: sally cinnamon "What is it about this that keeps coming up over and over again. Yes Hodgson is pretty slim to play RL but he has always been that way and has looked after himself against the best of the NRL for years never mind Super League. He is IMO the hardest pound for pound player we've had since I've been watching.

It's a shame there seems to be some murky end to his time with us and I hope he doesn't go away with that tarnishing his memory of his time here.

Hodgson was without doubt the best fullback I have seen at Warrington and with his reading of the game, faultless decision making and goalkicking he gave our team some great balance, he was also a very brave and committed player so IMO he goes down in history amongst the best of the best of Warrington players.'"

Agreed.
Incredible player and yes - the best full back we've had since Hesford and Whitehead IMO and I'm not sure then who would come out on top.

I can understand not extending his contract given his age and he was probably on a good deal, but leaving him out of the last couple of games surely was because he was injured and not fit, no? If he was fit and able to play then I would be amazed if we left him out for games as big as these. I was disappointed when I saw he wasn't playing at OT but thought it was unlucky for him to miss out through injury...if he was just left out then thats a huge call and I can see why he would be annoyed and feel we were making a mistake.

If you look on twitter, Myler tweeted a picture of his foot taken after the Huddersfield eliminator and it ain't pretty. I struggle to believe Smith would have made him play with it at Old Trafford unless he had to.

I'm not making out I've got some great inside knowledge in the club and am hesitant about saying this, but I did speak to someone within the club about Hodgson, expressing my surprise that he'd gone midway through his contract when he was one of my favourite players and someone who I'd hoped would stay to coach. The person was slightly more forthcoming than I'd expected, and said that Brett was something of his own man, but a lot of it family-driven - the example being not coming in to train when his child was ill, and missing the odd squad event, and that eventually it hadn't gone down well with TS. There was a suggestion that he still lived in Yorkshire (not sure if anyone can verify that?) rather than near Warrington, and was a bit detached.

That is interesting. He still lives in Huddersfield, although so does Smith and there are a few others on the other side of the hills. When you say about being detached though, I do remember him saying he didn't know where the town centre was and finding it rather odd.

Yes, the other example given was a quiz evening where in the past the Yorkshire players hadn't been expected to go but TS wanted them all to. I'm not sure if Brett did or didn't go to that particular thing but the suggestion was that he and TS had different views on that sort of thing

I heard that Hodgson had missed every training session during the play-offs.

In fact O'Brien was apparently training at full-back until he got injured. Those damn pesky injuries area right nuisance for sportsmen.

I hadn't heard anything about the rumours surrounding his departure and if true, what a sad way to end a glittering career and a sad way to sign off at Warrington where he'd been a fantastic signing.

I really hope it isn't true otherwise he's damaged his legacy which is a real shame.

rumours rumours gossip

at the end of the day if you're on the outside like we are all you can judge is what you see on the field and there were never any problems with Hodgson's attitude or his performances there

Yeah, if Brett had ever been anything less than 100% committed to the cause, he wouldn't have kept coming back after the punishment he suffered down the years. The truth may never be told, and of course the truth isn't as seductive as rumour, but the truth is the guys heart beat P&B blood every time he donned the shirt.

That's the way I'll remember him.
