| My absolute all time favourite rugby league player, gutted doesn't even come close. Sure I'm not the only one who's gotten a bit "emotional" on hearing this news.
As other people have said, Lee's career at Warrington included plenty of pretty miserable seasons as well as more recent great ones. I was made up for him when we finally won the Challenge Cup - seeing Lee and Mozzer lifting the trophy together is a memory that will live with me forever. I also remember the tearful reaction (Lee's, not mine - honest!) after he kicked 5 drop goals at Halifax and we lost to a late Cardiss try in the year we almost went down. And how about when he nearly beat Australia single-handedly in the 2000 world cup? King of the drop goal, king of the interception, king of packing down in the Wigan scrum... Such a fun player to watch, I love that he plays (played ) the game with a smile on his face... the gamesmanship that drives other team's fans mad but that you secretly love when it's done by one of your own.
Such a shame that we never won a grand final with him in the team; I half suspected that if we had won at Old Trafford he would have bowed out after that anyway, but it wasn't to be. As with Brett Hodgson, it's a shame we haven't had the chance to say "thank you" in a manner befitting the career. I hope (and expect) that the club will make a big deal of this so that he can get the standing ovation he deserves. Oh and obviously he should have been GB's half back for the last 10 years but that's a debate for a different day!
I'm sure he's had offers to move elsewhere (to - dare I say it - teams where he would have had a better chance of silverware earlier in his career) but for whatever reason he has stuck with the wire long enough to be our all-time record points scorer (think about that - it's a lot of points!). If it wasn't for some of his "flaws", I suspect he may have moved on to a bigger club way-back-when, but that personality is part of what makes him great - a brilliant, enigmatic, rugby league genius and a Warrington legend.
Thanks for the memories Lee.

| shame he couldnt of won the big one at old trafford but delighted he got 3 winners medals at wembley and to see him and moz lift the famous trophy together(cheers moz)will never be forgotten..to stick with a club for so long while it went thru some lean times is testament to his character..just wonder will the club go out and buy a replacement...

| Tormented us for as long as I can remember almost, that said I'm sad to see him retire, great feet and hands and could read a game magnificently.

| A few years ago I was walking along Sankey Street and on the other side of the road were 4 or 5 Wire players...Immaculate track suits, sunbed shop tans obviously thinking they were the dog's gonads...A couple of minutes afterwards a young man in jeans and sweater accompanied by a female walked past me. I thought he looked vaguely familiar and then I realised it was Lee Briers, pasty faced and not particularly smart. Looking at him you'd never dream he was top RL player in contrast to the posers I saw a few minutes previously...Thanks for all the entertainment over the years Lee and best wishes for the future.

| Genuinely can't stop crying, the greatest player of my generation, I've loved watching play.
I'm 34 so really Lee started playing when I started going to games independently, I've watched him in most of the grounds he's played in and some of the memories I have are ingrained.
During his times here we have gone through some pretty dark times on and off the pitch and unfortunately for myself so did I, watching rugby every weekend was seriously the only thing that kept me going and Lee has been the architect behind my enjoyment.
This hurts me in a way some people couldn't imagine, thank you Lee, thank you for your loyalty, thank you for sharing your gift with us, thank you for sublime talent, thank you for making my life, just for 80 minutes in a week bearable during my dark times and I hope that our support for you during your dark times means as much to you.
Lee Briers is a Warrington legend and that isn't up for debate, I'll miss you Lee but I'll never ever forget you.
Good luck in the next chapter of your life mate, make it has special as you have made your last chapter for us.
Thank you Lee
#wirelegend

Mummy duck is now thoroughly depressed. SHE was the one that was famous for losing five in a row........until the 2011 GF!!!!!: |
|
| The golden point drop goal, the joining the scrum on the wrong side, the look to heaven when he was announced as MOM at Wembley. To name but three reasons why LB will always be regarded as "A Wire!"

I will look to the moment, and miraculously, the future will take care of itself.

| Someone said earlier that he played with a smile on his face, and that really sums him up for me. He clearly enjoyed the game, and was brilliant at it.
Thanks Lee

I'm glad in a way. It forces a clean break and means we have to move on.

| Wish him all the best for the future. A truly great player and a real character who I will miss watching. Been a thorn in our (Hull FC) side every time we have faced him. Good luck in your new role Lee.

I agree with latchfordbob.
It was never going to be easy. But this is better than him starting next year and then have to pack in after a few games or even worse not being picked & him not being able to pick up a coaching job. From a Wire point of view he is not now on the Salary Cap & so we have an opportunity to have a good look around at what might suit us best. I love him ... a great player ... but stopping playing comes to us all.

| I couldnt imagine a wire team without John Bevan in...but I was considerably younger back then...
Lee finishing now is dissapointing but not the end of the world.......
whats concerning is the group that inlcudes lee who will no longer be at the club next year:
Morley aged 36
Briers aged 35
Hodgson 35
Carvell 32
138 years of experience...and a fair amount of grunt and skill....and some Salary to be fair.......
interesting times next year......
