Plus Saints pens seemed to be awarded within 20 metres of our line whereas we got pens on our own 30 metre line.

| When Briers was penalised for a gnats nut hair touch on Lomax's foot at the ptb is when I thought he was trying to help them out.

Plus One.
Also what did Bridgey get drawn in with Meli which resulted in a Pen to them (on the 5th tackle) which then resulted in their try to make it 22 - 6. Bridgey just seemed to be prepared to concede a Penalty so he could have a bit of hand bags with Meli. Really daft from such a class player.

| I think people are mixing up penalties with things like advantage after a knock on, which also results in a set of 6.

Bridge was penalised for letting Meli hit him. Another bizarre decision.
As for the penalty count being even at 8 - 6 well two of ours were in the last five when the game was over (and one of them we could of had an advantage of a tap 20m) whilst another was for Meli picking the ball up in an off-side position when we would have had a zero tackle.
On two occasions we had a player thrown back to the floor whilst trying to play the ball yet no penalty given. Quite honestly how those two weren't given I do not have a clue.

Agree about the touchies, what a waste of time they are'"
Disagree about the refs with you there,in union the refs don't clamour to be big buddys with the players, laughing and joking and engaging in banter, they just give their decision and get on with it,our refs are like football refs, they think they should be as visible as the players themselves, respect towards the refs is dwindling and it's understandable when the players must be as fed up as the crowd.
Is the solution to get more ex players involved? Unfortunately the Rugby League just have a jobs for the boys policy so things will never change,Cummings,Ganson, who's next in line for a Referree Performance Management And Development Assistant To The Assistant role Thierry Bloody Alibert!!

| I'll admit I normally watch a Sky game live and spend the whole match thinking the ref is having us over. I'll then go home watch the match back and realise most of the time the ref got the decision correct.
Last night I watched the game back and was even more convinced the rules were being applied differently depending upon which team was in possession.

couldn't agree more.... in the cold light of day, having watched the game back alcohol free, the decisions are even worse.
its the way in which the penalties were given and the timing of them that i have the problem with... he refereed the game with the sole intention of getting saints back in it.. no doubt about it in my mind. You cant describe it any other way. The rules were not be applied in the same way to both sides... infact, they couldn't have been applied any differently.
then at the end he gave us a few meaningless ones to try and even the count out. Pathetic display.

| Sometimes when you are at the game and think..."are we getting a raw deal from the ref here? or am i just a bit biased"...
Then you see a thread like this and it says it all....Silverwood was shocking,i understand when people groan when a certain ref is named for a Wire fixture he is the one that i dread reffing our games...Terrible official..

| The quality of reffing was no different to what we see pretty much every week on sky. Just keeping the game as close as they can for the tv public.

| Another howler was the way Silverwood ignored giving us a repeat set after a clear as day Saints touch when we were attacking their line ten metres out.
I point blank refuse to accept that he didn't see it.

1883.jpg Didn't William Webb Ellis pick up the ball and run, someone should really tell Rugby Union.

| I am surprised, that people are surprised with Silverwood. He is consistent in his approach to this fixture.

| Part of the problem, with suggestions of bias, leniency and evening up is that there is no transparency with the referees.
I don't know if the coaches and refs have any forum to review decisions, style of referring etc. but if I was Tony Smith I'd have been straight onto the phone to whoever is in charge asking "What the hell is going on at the PTB? Can we sit down and go through the match and you can point out where we were going wrong?"
Last night we had the cushion of a 22-0 lead before things turned, if it had been 14-0 or 16-0 then we may well have lost and that would have been a real travesty.

| Quote: Saddened! "He wasn't refereeing the sides differently at all, it was just a reflection of who was on top in the game. Wire with Higham on were on top were direct and played through the middle and Saints had to hold down or we'd have been swamped even more than we were.
When Higham went off however Saints were pretty much on top. Last 10 of the first half and first 20 of the second was all Saints, probably 75% possession of the ball through that period. Obviously then you are going to cop a few penalties as you are defending more. A lot of the penalties actually given had very little meaning as well. We got several of them inside your 10 early in the count, which doesn't change much.
Higham is the Man of Steel for me this year, he's kept you going this season, when I don't think you've been as clinical as you have in previous seasons.'"
I tend to agree with Saddened here. Higham was my mom followed by Grix and then Ratch.
At 25 mins it was like a light was switched off and the game changed. Saints began charging in to tackles like we did in the first 25 and then it became a battle - irrespective of the rights and wrongs of the reffing. When he came back on we went on the front foot again.
Regarding Man Of Steel, certainly Micky is right up there, but there are a few other top contenders including Peacock
